Slight taste of roasted malts. Slightly sour. Decent roasted/burnt aftertaste. A strange beer, but still enjoyable. jah noth (1017), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 25, 2004 I found this one buried in the ole beer fridge, a remnant of a year old trade with Jeremy. Still good, absolutely. Deop black pour with nice dandruff. Hugely roasted aroma - one you could smell for awhile. Modest body - reminiscent of a porter. Tasted of roasted barley, with bitter chocolate and a hoppy twang at the finish. This is a nice everday type of stout. It took an aggressive pour to get out even the meager off-white head it provided, what is there sticks firmly to the glass. Mocha and roasted coffee beans are heavy on the nose with a slight, vague fruitiness present as well. Smell is awesome. Mouthfeel is a bit lighter than I expected. Nice taste, sweet up front, roasty in the middle with light pangs of bitterness at the end. Very refreshing for a stout, almost pushes itself into "session" territory. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2004 Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Flavor starts out sweet but finishes quite dry and bitter. Could use more body as it is a little light for a stout. joshpiledean (226), Ames, Iowa, USA

Pours black and fully opaque with a moderate tan head that diminishes with little lacing. Aroma is full, with lots of dark roasted malts, bitter chocolate and oily coffee present. Flavor is nice, dry, bitter, tart and mildly sweet with an astringent finish. Thick body, mildly carbonated. Nice brew! SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 3, 2004 Deep black with a thick off white head. Nice roasted malt aroma that intensifies as the brew warms. Caramel, sweet malt tempered by roast malt bitterness and toffee. A little more body would improve this some, but it’s not a bad brew otherwise. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA

The aroma is slightly sweet yet bitter, slightly roasty with strong licorice notes and fruity notes. The flavor is sweet, roasty and malty with nice coffee notes and a little bitterness. Full bodied, slightly tingly and a touch dry.
