Commercial Description:
Dogwood Stout is a dry, Irish stout. We use a combination of roasted barley, flaked barley and chocolate malt to create a complex, textured maltiness with hints of coffee and chocolate with a rich fullness of body. We leave it unfiltered to add to its complexity. Its deep, dark mysterious color is topped off by a robust creamy head. It too is naturally carbonated. Dogwood Stout won a Silver Medal Winner at the 1997 World Beer Championships and was named one of top two microbrews in Atlanta by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dogwood Stout is available in bottles and on tap anytime of the year.

This stout pours with a black body topped by a medium thick, light brown head with some lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet yet bitter, slightly roasty with strong licorice notes and fruity notes. The flavor is sweet, roasty and malty with nice coffee notes and a little bitterness. Full bodied, slightly tingly and a touch dry.

HaHaaaa!!! Thanks to the great RateBeeriean SpringsLicker for sending me this Atlanta brew!
Rating # 460
pours with a deep black body and a murky kaki colored head… lacing everywhere! The aromoma is cream like / milky, notes of mocha and cappuccino spring up with each sniff. Flavor brings some earthy and smoky peat like qualities, coco, and a little vanilla… the body is the only big letdown for the beer…. Watery, but slick… it just needs some more texture. This stout finished up dry and chared..decent stuff!
I am however grateful that I was able to sample this non-native DogWood, thanks again Jay!

Very stout-like in appearance. Slightly dusty aroma with apple sweetness and the requisite coffee bitterness. The flavor is a continuation of the aroma, starts with tart fruitiness and finishes with cocolate and coffee. There's nothing remarkable about this dry stout - it's well-made and enjoyable, but it doesn't knock one's socks off.

The first thing that struck me about this beer was its exceptional appearance: pure black (not brown) with only the slightest hint of red when held in fromt of strong light, capped by a thick, rocky, tan head that leaves sheets of lacing behind. The aroma was of coffee and roasted malts, enough to start me salivating. The flavor was no letdown. Rich, smooth, and thick with strong coffee notes, a predominate roasted flavor, and a dark-chocolatey bitterness, accompanied by a subtle malty sweetness. Truly excellent as far as I'm concerned. I'm proud to have a beer like this representing my home state!

Unfiltered obsidian with dark ruby edges. Thick, lastingly rocky, pasty tan foam. Chocolate fudge aroma with plenty of roasted barley, cocoa-dusted peanuts and truffle. Mild roastiness underneath a light note of coffee, charcoal, toast, cream and very vague fruity hop character. Densely creamy, chewy body with lots of fluff. Plum and black cherries swim in chocolate and nestle up to a tasty sugar, smoke and leather blend. Feathery, lightly acidic, roasted barley twinge helps to manage the rich chocolate. Light hop bitterness and burnt malts fight for position at the back of the throat, with neither coming out on top. Ends a tad lighter in body yet with substantial charred malt girth, which handles the dark fruits and mild roasted malt bedding without any trouble. The acidity is here, but never becomes a distraction, thanks to the rich chocolate and cocoa. Hazelnuts, coffee, wax, caramel and truffle remnants amid a very well-placed fruity hop accent. Excellent stout.

The beer poured out very dark brown opaque with brown rough head that did not last very long. The bouquet is clearly that of dark roasted barley with a hint of dark roasted coffee. The malt lends this beer a chewey character. The taste is dry malty with much less bitterness than other stouts. It almost tastes like a cross between a stout and a porter, but without the caramel sweetness that is typically present in most porters. The mouthfeel was oily and smooth. Great drinkability.
