Commercial Description:
Dogwood Stout is a dry, Irish stout. We use a combination of roasted barley, flaked barley and chocolate malt to create a complex, textured maltiness with hints of coffee and chocolate with a rich fullness of body. We leave it unfiltered to add to its complexity. Its deep, dark mysterious color is topped off by a robust creamy head. It too is naturally carbonated. Dogwood Stout won a Silver Medal Winner at the 1997 World Beer Championships and was named one of top two microbrews in Atlanta by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dogwood Stout is available in bottles and on tap anytime of the year.

This beer ages very well. Had my second bottle after 5 months of aging. Deep black pour with a tan head. Strong roasted malt and caramel from the aroma. Tastes of dry malt. Pretty good for a micro! Very impressive.

Dark brown color with no head. Not much of an aroma...some bitter coffee, dark fruits. The flavor was just as slight...coffee...bitter aftertaste. The feel was too thin and watery. Man, maybe I got a bad bottle or something because all of you are commenting on how thick this is. I’ll have to try this again someday.

Brewgrass Festival, Asheville, NC 2003. Inky black, and coffee and toast on the aroma. Clean, crisp, and rich at the same time. Finishes with some hickory and more coffee flavors. Very impressive.

The most carbonated stout I've had as of yet. Poured with a huge soda like head that was formed from large bubbles. Has a smokey aroma with some notes of coffee. Feels a bit thin on the palate and highly carbonated like soda water. Flavor is a bit stale so this may be an old bottle. Bitter and dry with not much flavor.

Black with a wonderfully full coffee aroma. Not as hoppy as Guiness Extra Stout, and also a bit thin in comparison, but the coffee/chocolate flavor in this brew makes this highly enjoyable.

Aroma is similar to sniffing my morning coffee. Black as death with a nice beige head. Flavor is fairly bitter with dark chocolate in the background but coffee taking charge. Palate is a little thin but as good as many dry stouts Ive had. My favorite Dogwood so far.

Dark brown with a small tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Thin body, coffee notes in taste. Average.

12 oz bottle, tulip glass. Ginormous fizzy head is a light tan color and can beat you in a staring contest. Thick black body is nearly opaque. Roasted, coffee, pine and dough aromas are all strong. Flavors could be classified as deep and rich if they had a little more substance. Starts slightly sweet and finishes with quality balancing hops. Finish is rather short, though. Body is medium sized and of watery texture. Carbonation is WAY too heavy for a stout. There's not any good way for me to explain how wrong the over-carbonation of this beer is. Yes the head would be smaller without as much fizz, but the flavors would stronger and it wouldn't feel like drinking alka-seltzer. I'll try this on tap at some point and average my ratings, but shame, shame for now.
