As I slowly pour the first two ounces into my pint glass the contents suddenly transform into 4 inches of thick, dense foam. Odd I am now holding a glass full to the top with foam and no liquid at all. Suffice it to say it took me 15 minutes to finally pour all 12 ounces into my glass. Finally, deep black nectar with a strong lasting brown head, massive aroma of coffee only surpassed by the flavor of coffee. Major chocolate flavor to offset and complement the onslaught of the coffee. In short, a freaking fantastic beer. splink48 (35), Fayetteville, Georgia, USA

Reading the other reviews, maybe I had a bad one, but mine was horrible. It seemed like they just threw some coffee grounds in and shook the bottle before shipping it out. I like stouts, but not this one. skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 31, 2004 2004 comes to a close with a rating of the best GA brewery to go down in 2004 - Dogwood.
Dry is an understatement, as this stout is parched to the bone. The aroma is sinister, as it buries some milder fruits below the burned paper toasted/roasted malt. The carbonation is supreme for the style. The flavor is the source of the letdown, as the character flattens out considerably. The dry finish is no surprise, contrary to the fate of this fine brewery - R.I.P. Dogwood. GrainBeltGuzzler (249), Goodhue, Minnesota, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 10, 2004 Eclipse black color. Medium sized tan/beige head. Aroma is chocolate and toffee with hints of vanilla. A light to medium bodied stout. Malts are chocolate and coffee. Slightly spicy and bitter hops. Nicely balanced. Smooth taste. Good solid stout. DAMN IT ALL… they aren’t around anymore. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 8, 2004 Why are you people in Georgia so foolish... HOW??? HOW could you let this brewery go under...they make some excellent beers! Fools i say! This beer poured a very nice black color with very very little light able to be seen within the beer. Thick tan and orange head which dissipated quickly but actively arose and left mild lacing with a quick swirl. The aroma was phenomenal however. The aged qualities and maturity of this beer really came out with a thick array of chocolate, coffee, malts, vanilla, wood and some serious smokiness. The flavor is light to medium bodied as most stouts are, with a nice chocolate, vanilla, coffee and smokey body. Not overwhelming, but ever so slightly chewy in the deep finish. Light dry finish, sweet with an active degree of carbonation and a hint of marshmellows. Very subtle memories of starbucks dance in my head as I drink this. This is a SOLID beer...why did Dogwood have to die! Damn you Georgia!!!! JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2004 Has a date of 12/19/04 on the bottle, so I’m in under the wire. Clear black liquid with a monstrous (root beer float) like tan bubbly head. Espresso, fig pudding, peat and mild molasses aromas. Light sweet start with just a touch of malt cellar mold. Some lactose and rye flavors. Perhaps a slight infection in this bottle as evident by the lighter feel and effervescence. Thanks Tom. 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 2, 2004 Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar. Rich roasted malt aroma. Little hints of whiskey???? Deep black color with a bit of reddish hue. Really no head to speak of. Rich and smooth mouthfeel. Dry indeed. Very malty with chocolate and deeply roasted grains dominating the flavor. Nice light hops in the finish. Really delightful.
