Commercial Description:
Dogwood Stout is a dry, Irish stout. We use a combination of roasted barley, flaked barley and chocolate malt to create a complex, textured maltiness with hints of coffee and chocolate with a rich fullness of body. We leave it unfiltered to add to its complexity. Its deep, dark mysterious color is topped off by a robust creamy head. It too is naturally carbonated. Dogwood Stout won a Silver Medal Winner at the 1997 World Beer Championships and was named one of top two microbrews in Atlanta by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dogwood Stout is available in bottles and on tap anytime of the year.

Bottle. TIne tan head, black body. Roasty chocolate and coffee aroma. Flavor is similar with a slight dry finish. I like the taste. It is dry, but it also has a roasty flavor which balances quite nicely with the dryness.

Pours a dark brown, with light brown head, very small. Aroma of Coffee, whiskey and choclate. Flavor is full of roast and bitter choclate/coffee, licorice. Palate is a little thin. A nice brew. Thanks to Shag for this tasty brew.

Pours with a three-finger brown head that fades slowly and leaving an even lace. Totally black color. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Nose is a roasted coffee. Starts and finishes with a roasted coffee/chocolate flavor with a hint of bitterness. $1.67 for a 12oz bottle; found at Super 7-Even Raleigh, NC. Get this while you can the brewery has closed.

Bottle Pours an opaque black with a small dark tan head. fine medium lacing. Aromas are coffee old barrels, smoke and a little chocolate. Not very sweet. Flavors are dominated by a woody, smokey taste..and yes..as grat says.."tar" Interesting. Feel is quite thin and just swirling it around, the viscosity seems quite low and the carbonation is soft as it shold be.. Aftertaste is the expected smokey/woody notes. Not bad. Thanks to Captain Cougar for this special retired brew.

The aroma is all that still survives on this one. Oxidized and laid to rest my friends this brew was shipped to North Carolina years ago. However, it still shows signs of how good it was. The aroma is unparalleled. Tar, prunes, ash and spruce. Roasted. Appearance is flat, zero carbonation, but I must repsect this one, even though it lacks it usual effervescence this one was great. Flavors are pretty metallic. Everything that shines about the nose is still holding on, it’s just being pushed out by the ages and the air seeping into the bottle. Flavors of plastic and mocha ash predominate. Perhaps the first drainpour that doesn’t deserve it. G-rat

Rusty-brown body with a thin, soapy tan head. Nice aroma of dark chocolate, espresso, dried cherries, and honey. Chocolate and toffee flavor with a roasty, ashen quality. Less sweet than anticipated from the aroma. Silky, medium-full body. Thanks CaptainCougar for this very nice stout from Dogwood.

deep black color, not a bit of lightness peeking through, big, raucous, roasty brown head..looking good! Nose is rich with espresso tinges, cocoa edges, a roasty, toasty affair, a bit bittersweet, very sophisticated, very nice. Smooth and well-rounded once it gathers in the mouth, very easy, with a little bitter coffeeish taste right on the side. I gulp again, and it once more goes down with ease. Body is full, flavor rich, and drinkability high, an one-the-money stout that belongs up there with the best of them. I had a Guinness Extra Stout earlier tonight and it felt so watery and over-carbonated. This is just right.
