Commercial Description:
Dogwood Stout is a dry, Irish stout. We use a combination of roasted barley, flaked barley and chocolate malt to create a complex, textured maltiness with hints of coffee and chocolate with a rich fullness of body. We leave it unfiltered to add to its complexity. Its deep, dark mysterious color is topped off by a robust creamy head. It too is naturally carbonated. Dogwood Stout won a Silver Medal Winner at the 1997 World Beer Championships and was named one of top two microbrews in Atlanta by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dogwood Stout is available in bottles and on tap anytime of the year.

Thanks to goldtwins for the trade. This Stout is an obsidian black color with a slight ruby halo. Very thin beige head and little lacing. The aroma consists mainly of coffee and burnt malt. The body is the same richness as in most Dry Stouts, with coffee, hops and a hint of chocolate flavors. The finish is rather dry with lightly bitter hops and coffee. Overall not a bad entry to the category and a shame that there will be one less Stout being produced.

9.24.04 12oz bottle thanks to Goldtwins. Pours pitch brown, little halo of lingering head. Strong coffee notes on nose, not much choco, but a very nice coffee smell. Flavor is roasty and burnt with hints of peat/earth. Mild coffee finish. Good, light, coating body. Nice complexity and all-around subtlty with this one...it’s a shame about Dogwood. Thanks for the rarified treat, Larry!

(Draught) Pours a dark brown with an off-white head. Sweet malt, chocolate, and coffee flavor. Creamy palate. Rich roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Nice stout!

Beautiful opaque black with a tiny tan head. Roasted coffee nose with subtle hints of fruit and molasses and a touch of chocolate. Good feel in the mouth. The flavor did not live up to the aroma but wasn’t much off. Still that roasted coffee essence with touches of molasses and friut and chocolate. A very nice stout.

Bottled, thanks SpringsLicker! Very black with brownish head. Coffee aroma. Medium sweet with clean rounded mouthfeel. Malty with some molasses and chocolate. Warming and hearty, a well balaced stout.

Poured that most tantalizing of Stout hues, Black (capital to express the sheer blackness of the pour). The head was a medium tan head. The beer had a wonderful aroma of roasted malts. The beer tasted wonderfully, with a strong coffee flavor (that nice roasted bean flavor) with a mildly hoppy after taste. Wonderful beer.

I haven’t found a Dogwood brew that don’t like, and their stout no exception. The first thing that strikes you about this beer is its wonderful coffee aroma. I’m not a huge coffee fan, but this brew had just the right amount of coffee aroma and flavor to where I could really enjoy it. Medium body, sort of light for stout, and black to the point it was not translucent. Overall, a very enjoyable ale that was crafted for maximum drinkability.

Very dark color with a thich tan colored head that is modestly retained. Aroma is very strong coffee with some cream. Flavor is also very heavy towards strong coffee. This works quite well for me since I love strong coffee. Excellent dry stout. Thanks Tom!!
