This version is darg gold with a malty and spicy nose. Taste is slightly bitter (off?) with flavors of nutmeg and orange. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA

I think this one was courtesy JFURYCAT. Dark straw and gold, little head. Aromas of honey and melon, bit of wood(?) and butterscotch, plus biscuit. Thin body and pretty flat at this point, but still quite tasty. If anyone still has this stuff, I’d drink it ASAP. Coating still, and an unusual lingering grassiness that must be rye. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 9, 2005 After having a couple 12 oz bottles I wasnt impressed but after sampling the larger bottle I was surprised that I liked it so much. Nice hazy orange with a decent spritzy head that fades slowly. Moderately spicy with some clove, and possibly coriander and yeastiness. Possibly some notes of coriander as well. Flavor is also a bit yeasty with lots of phenolics with slight fruitiness- maybe some banana? Also hints of alcohol, but overall very nice and smooth in the finish. hopdog (5627), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

I believe it was slikwily that arranged for this rare vintage Dogwood Winter Ale to be served at our recent Ratebeer Minnesota gathering. There was concernthat it might be past its prime, but I think it proved itself to be one of the stars in our star-studded 21 beer lineup that evening that included no less than 7 top-50 beers. Unique aroma with saffron notes. White head; lasting. Good amount of visible carbonation. Nice lace. Saffron flavor with toffee notes. Well balanced. Nice complexity of flavors and sugars.
