| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 29, 2003 Clear garnet with small beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, strong allspice, caramel, light chcoclate. Taste is mild sweet, strong spicy (predominantly allspice, some cardemom), some roasty chocolate and burnt caramel in the back half of the throat. Medium body. I didn't much like this -- too much spice, not enough hops or malt. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Dec 29, 2003 Updated: Apr 20, 2004Murky dark brown color with a smattering of white foam. Has a sweet nutmegy/vanilla aroma. The flavor is an amplified version of the aroma. At the start where you might expect some malt, it gives you a thin metallic, watery taste. Only then does the aftertaste kick in, which unfortunately is just a chemically fake nutmeg spice flavor. Lingering soapy notes. Not at all recommended. For reference, my cap had "SP" written on it in magic marker. mixamatt (427), San Francisco, California, USA

Tastes more normal after mixing with 2 parts of regular Dogwood Winter 2003. * Had this at a beer club meeting with many other beers, hence I don't remember all my comments - only the ratings which I wrote down at the time. biermonk (259), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 1, 2003 Updated: Dec 2, 2003This is very different from its more available cousin in every aspect. Pours a dark brown that allows light to penetrate throwing amber colors around the glass. Small, quickly dissipating head. Nose is heavy with cloves also some tones of nutmeg and cinnamon yeah, maybe some ginger. Very festive indeed heavily spiced flavor. Previous rater is correct about it lacking in body. I thoroughly enjoyed drinking this. This will definitely come out for Christmas with the family. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 1, 2003 Bottle: Wonderfully spicy aroma of nutmeg, ginger, cloves and a bit of cinnamon. Add a little pumpkin and this would make a great pumpkin ale. Pours dark with a thin head. Great spice flavor that I really enjoyed. This is what a Christmas ale should taste like but could use a little bit more body. wunderbier (1271), Tampere, Finland
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 1, 2003 12 oz bottle, snifter, 52 degrees F. Tall, brown, creamy head diminishes slowly and sits on a very deep brown-red body. Ginger and nutmeg (I think) are the predominant aromas. Black coffee malt (M); doughy yeast (L); pepper aroma. Moderate sweetness throughout is matched by a heavily spicey finish. There's also moderate acidity in the finish. Medium-heavy body, oily texture, soft carbonation. The bottom line is: despite this beer's youth, it's quite tasty
