Rating # 10 for this.
Why, oh why did Dogwood have to close??
This was extremely well done and one of the better of the whiskey barrel brews out there.
Dark brown in color with an off-white creamy head.
Smooth flavor, nothing like the regular Dubbel. The barrel has completely transformed this one into something else. No longer a Dubbel, but a very tasty brew nonetheless. Extremely smooth and no over the top whiskey notes. Well balanced. Perhaps it’s continuing to improve with time. brewbandit (312), Marietta, Georgia, USA

Perhaps a little long in the barrel, but thats fine. Nice roasted malts with caramel backbone and vanilla woody notes. Smooth. biermonk (259), San Francisco, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 7, 2004 This was a very satisfying outing from Dogwood. Not on the overly complex side, tastes like a dubbel that has been aged for too short of a time in Jack Daniels barrels. Rich, smooth and creamy, with a hint of woody whiskey bite. Very good, but very tame. wunderbier (1271), Tampere, Finland
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 7, 2004 Updated: May 9, 2004Oak, vanilla, chocolate aromas. Deep brown body with a medium, creamy, tan head. Some medicinal flavors develope as it warms. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. The bottom line is: tasty, somehow completely different from the dubbel, but sort of a one-trick pony. skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 5, 2004 Updated: Jul 4, 2004 re-rate Another pint from the final tapped keg in GA has left me miffed.
#1 The aroma is all bourbon.
#2 The flavor of the dubbel has dissipated into a thinner, more acidic brew, with tons of burn in the finish.
#3 No way this is <6%ABV.

Did somebody just dump some whiskey into my glass, because this isn't the same beer i've had before.

Sampled 2 pints at Marietta Pizza Co. ($6.00 and worth every penny). I echo the sentiments of prior raters on this one. A good beer has crossed into the excellent category, by the aging process. While the aroma and flavor are not as complex as some of the more seasoned trappist brews - this beer is a treat. The Jack Daniels in the aroma is stronger than it comes through in the flavor. This is primarily a caramel chocolate porter (with no hops or coffee bitterness), with the added splendor of a perfect amount of Jack Daniels on the tongue. While the glass of this root beer colored beer has no head, the lacing is fantastic. I don’t see this as a dubbel, simply due to the lack of vinous characteristics. Who cares - it tastes great! Did I mention the chocolate and caramel in the flavor?

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 29, 2004 As a whiskey barrel aged version, this beer goes from just alright to spectacular. Strong whisky nose and a dense dark appearance with almost no carbonation. The potency of the beer is something to be reckoned with in this version. It was like drinking a pint of Whiskey with a touch of beer. For those of you that were able to drink more than two in a sitting, I salute you.
