Big Mocha head that slides into a nearly opque dark brown beer.
Malt aroma carries caramel and a hint of spice with it to the nose. A hint of smokeas well.
Rich smooth malt and roast malt flavors with very little contribution from the hops. This has things in it that remind me of a Brown Ale, a Porter, A Smoked Beer and a Bock. A nicely done flavorful beer, but not typical of an Abbey Dubbel. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

I think I got some brown sugar and spicy red wine in there to after it warmed up. Flavor is predominently smoky and roasted, with a subtle sweetness. Some hops. Quite powerful overall. Seems like a smoked porter. Sickboy282 (1099), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 5, 2004 pours a deep, slightly cloudy vrown with an off-white head. Aromas of roasted malts and not much else. Fairly bitter mouthfeel with light yeastiness, and mild hop bitterness. Flavors are almost porter-like with a nice roasted flavor with a mild spice to it. As mr_kimchee stated, it doesn’t seem likd an abbey dubble... more like a porter.....or hybrid of some styles. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 24, 2004 Roasty hops and malts, deep brown, small tan head. Has a bitter almond flavour, light bodied, smooth and creamy. Quite a nice beer. Doesn’t fit the style. Thanks MrManning. radiomgb (2000), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 23, 2004 Dark brown in colour. Aroma of moalsses, chocolate, nuts, and some licorice. Flavour was lightly malty, with some dark chocolate, some coffee and a little sour. Finishes with a mild bitterness and dry. savitska (163), Smyrna, Georgia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 22, 2004 A little too heavy and alcohol-y for my tastes. More malt than hops and much more assertively "sweet", as oppossed to bitter/spicy, than any dubbel I’ve ever had. joshpiledean (227), Ames, Iowa, USA
