Dark chocolate brown with a decent size tan head. The aroma was absolutely amazing, the best smelling beer I’ve ever experienced. Lots of dark and milk chocolates with some almond scents and some heavy cream too. I can’t
thank KP enough for bringing this out and letting us sample. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA

It was a very dark black color with a fairly large deep tan head. Had a sick amount of light chocolate tones in the aroma along with alot of nuts. The body was beyond smooth with lots of nuttiness blended with chocolate malts. excellent beer. asheft (1410), Marburg, Germany

Oily black with light brown islands and ring. Aroma is chock full o’ hazlenuts and vanilla with some burnt malt characteristics--biscuits and sherry. Also some diacetyl and cereal grains in the aroma. This beer has a dry sherry flavour that is very toasty and with perfectly balanced sweetness and bitterness. Earthy coffee notes. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation and an amazingly clean finish for such a beer. This is probably one of the best beers that I have ever had (and that’s coming from someone who generally thinks that black, high gravity beers are overrated). jerc (3923), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Black body with a small chocolate head, clings to the glass as if homesick for its kettle brethren. Roasty alcoholic aroma with muted dark chocolate. Dry roasty bitterness reminiscent of my memories of chocolate covered coffee beans. Medium to full bodied palate. The coffee like qualities turn me off a bit but this is quite a nice beer. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA

Musty nose full of bourbon, dusty earthy smoked chocolate. Flavor is a little aged (musty, dusty, etc) with some chocolate malts and smokey, arid, old woody sour flavors. Definitely a unique beer. Aroma was good strong coffee and chocolate. Taste was outstanding, a light oak tickled the taste buds with waves of chocolate and coffee blended sublimely. Smooth and soothing mouthfeel finished clean and delightful. Ray1975 (251), Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, USA

Smooth drink for 8% with almost no alcohol taste.. medium to thick mouthfeel.. Too bad this one is retired... | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 15, 2005 i believe i owe some thanks to goldtwins for this bottle, and they would actually be huge thanks. the pour was a spectacularly solid black with a thick and creamy dark head that sat ontop for about half the glass. the aroma was heavenly, with strong portions of coffee and chocolate, as well as a red wine characteristic, all of which translated into its unbelievable flavor. the chocolates were sweet and smooth, with the red wine, coffee, some oak, and a light hop flavor blended perfectly. a nice solid body with a soft velvety mouthfeel, a clean crisp finish with the chocolates lingering on the palate and i would have to say this was probably the best porter i have ever had.
