Bourbon and currant concentrate on the nose was awesome, and easily the best part about this beer. Oily black in the glass with a pure and creamy red-brown head. The flavor was weak compared to the aroma, but with the same notes. The roastiness emerged slowly, and never reached the intensity I wanted. Marble-candy sweetness on the finish. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 18, 2005 Thick black liquid with a low head of dark brown bubbles. Minimal carbonation. Sweet roasted aroma of dark chocolate, lactose, caramel and a hint of coffee. Color is essentially black with a hint of deep red. Somewhat thinner flavor than I expected based on the coating of the glass. More roasted grains, coffee and a little sweetness but not much. Finish is long and roastty with more coffee and a touch of bitterness. Nice alcohol warming as it goes down. A very good baltic porter and a big thanks to goldtwins for this one. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 18, 2005 Very dark, brown head, roasty coffee and chocolate, medium bodied, semi-sweet finish. Thanks for sharing Drew (and Aracauna). erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 18, 2005 Pours black w/ a lite tan head. It’s got legs. Coffee and chocolate nose. Med-heavy body. Way too much roastiness for the style. Some smokiness but not a lot. The Baltic Porter style leaves little room for grey area as it is so close to a number of styles so I would say this one goes a little too close to being an Imperial Stout. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 17, 2005 This had such a rich aroma and taste - it was nearly overpowering - like it’s enticing you into a drunken stupor. Excellent deep black/brown body, tan head, great lacing. Toasty, roasted coffee, chocolate. Finish was hoppy and roasty. Palate was incredible. Thanks Aracauna! The aroma is sweet roasted with notes of malt and lots of chocolate. The flavor is very roasted and contains as well notes of chocolate and coffee while the mouthfeel is very smooth. madsberg (5075), Søborg, Denmark
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 12, 2005 Bottled: Red brown coloured. Brown head. Raisin, light roast, sweetness and vanilla in the aroma. Flavour is hard roasted. Very dominant. Some sweetness and chocolate notes. Ends on a light bitter note on a massive roast background. A little too unbalanced. Would have liked it to be a bit more smooth in the flavours. Thanks to Springslicker for trading this. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2005 bottle-pours a deep brown hue with a nice tan head. big coffee, chocolate aroma with a definate yeast quality. Flavors are predominately chocolate and dark roast that do not really show baltic porter characteristics (apparently, Whaleman found out this is an ale, not a lager). A good beer that has some good qualities, but definately not a true baltic porter.
