| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2004 Very dark brown body, closing to black. Light dark brown head. Kind of surprising aroma with an appealing oak chunks part to it, but at the same time an unfortunate mild soy sauce component. Rather complex flavor profile, smoky, bready, grape-ish, mostly malty and multi-faceted at that, worth exploring. It has a big weakness in terms of balance sadly though and that is the absence of control over the massive sweetness. Bitterness is kept pretty low, but the malts are shining everywhere, from the complex fruitiness to the attempting to balance roastiness. The finish made it seem almost like a milky barrel-aged beer with that woodiness. Massive body, thick and very timid on the effervescence. So what’s the final outcome with this one? I found it a bit overrated or disappointing. It could be awesome though, but this bottle anyway seemed like less than the mega sum of its many parts.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 18, 2004 This is a rich, decadent beer. Deep charcoal brown-black body, thin tan head. I think charcoal describes the aroma as well with molasses, black licorice, and chocolate also contributing. Roasted malt body with chocolate, smoke, licorice, and molasses. The whole has a charred malt nature. Oily, full body hides the virtually nonexistent alcohol. This is a great beer and certainly worth trading for. With that in mind, thanks Larry (goldtwins) for this gem! argo0 (6907), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is medium sweet, burnt/roasty, light chocolate. Taste is medium sweet, roasty/burnt, caramel, coffee, some cherry, medium hoppy undertones. Watery, medium-full body. scraff (1942), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Deep ultra browns and blacks, small tan creamy head. The aroma is chock full of milk chocolate, burnt vanilla, dusted cocoa, leather, port, and of all things.....light coconut. Flavor and aroma match like two peas in a pod. Full bodied, soft carbonation, thick creamy semi-bitter finish. May Dogwood RIP.
