Commercial Description:
Dominion Ale is brewed in an English style with American Two-Row Pale, Caramel, and Black malts. We use Perle, Willamette, and Mount Hood hops from the Pacific Northwest and English Kent Golding Hops. We ferment our ale with a traditional American yeast in the German Kolsch style - warm, fast fermentation followed by a slow maturation. Dominion Ale is malty with an assertive hop character dominated by the Kent Golding. It is crystal clear amber colored with medium body. Widely available in bottles and on draft, often as a house brand name.

Not a very complex offering here. Pours amber into the glass, lightly retentive head and lacing. Starts from the bottle with an initial sour nose, but once open, the bouquet shows a clear tendency toward caramel. The flavor is very unilateral, a hollow caramel sweetness, devoid of real substance. I was hoping the sweetness to derive from malts, but it feels more like a diluted honey. The finish, for a brew with 4 hop contingencies, doesn’t particularly exist.... same hollow sweetness. The nose is honestly the best portion of this beer, as a quite thin mouthfeel rounds out the offering. All in all, certainly not the first brew I’d have..... oh well, it tacks on another rating at least.

Clear copper body with a small creamy white head. Aroma of hops and roasted malt. Sweet malty flavor, but fairly flat.

Bottle - from sampler pack. OK, but not great. A bit too sweet and could probably use more hops. A bit under carbonated.

This basically bites. Unneccesarily sweet and otherwise bland, undercarbonated, hop challenged brew that I wouldn’t have liked much better even if it had been two bucks less for a sixer. Is this an amber or and English? Can’t quite decide. I can tell you I certainly won’t buy this again. Disappointing.

On tap as Chadwicks Amber: A horrible restaurant, but a decent beer, with a decent beer special on my first trip to DC area. The beer was somewhat nonoffensive tasty, just not anything special in any way shape or form.

Smell of hops, malt, and a touch of honey. Taste of malt, sweet hops, hint of caramel and a great bitterness to finish it off. Very good ale.

Light amber in color with a small white head that quickly disapates. Bready, earthy/spicy bitterness.

Nothing special. Another bland ale. It’s got no horrible qualities, but nothing that makes it stick out in a crowd. Ruddy coloring, small head. A nice enough brew, but usually not the best available.
