Commercial Description:
The combination of a flavorful, creamy stout (black) and an aromatic ale (tan) makes a delicious drink. Old Dominion Black and Tan has good body and a pleasant finish. We mix our Dominion Ale with Dominion Stout (two parts ale to one part stout) to create an authentic Black and Tan.

Retired when the Dominion Stout was discontinued in early 2004.

A good porter as porters go, caramel and some what malty in the nose. Decent hops and a nice flavor. Drinkable!

Once bottled, now draught only product found at the brewpub and a few outlets. Dominion Black and Tan pours to a beautiful, bright, deep brown/light black color with a creamy tan head, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose is packed with lots of aroma. Waves of chocolate malt, pale malt, a touch of roast, and some nice grassy hop aromatics flood the nose. The palate is firm, yet the body is soft enough, making this beer very gentle on the tongue. Flavors of sweet malt, pale malt, chocolate, coffee and subtle hints of roast fill the mouth. Dominion Black and Tan finishes with more sweet and chocolate malt flavors up front, then ends with a slightly roasty and bitter hop finish. Good with pub grub, and a nice session beer at the bar at OD.

On tap at the brewpub on 7/16/06: Pours a clear dark mahogany with a nicely-lacing off-white head. Aroma has a nice light toasty caramel sweetness with a touch of piny hoppiness. Body starts with a pleasant earthy sweet caramel maltiness, nicely-balanced with an earthy, mildly bitter hoppiness and toasty cookie dough flavor.

Crystal clear ruby brew. Medium-sized, khaki-colored, frothy head. Weeping lacework. The aroma is of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and caramel. Well-balanced with dark chocolate, caramel and coffee flavors dominating. Bitter and tangy hops. Medium-bodied with a fizzy mouthfeel. Short, crisp, clean finish. A tad thin, but very drinkable.

Very black. Sweet coffeeish palate. Could use more body, a bit watery.

Tap, Dulles airport. Almost opaque dark brown colour with a slim tan head. Roasted malty aroma. Roasted malty taste with hint of chocolate and some late bitterness. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Pretty good really.
