Cherry Wheat as a style is not new, it has been done by a number of breweries and brewpubs, with Sam Adams Cherry Wheat being the most widely available example of the style. Cherry wheat is an unfiltered wheat beer that is brewed with the addition of sour cherries. The tartness of the wheat malts, and the sourness of the cherry in this beer makes this a fantastic, thirst quenching, very tasty beer, one that is just a pint after pinter at the brewpub. Dominion Cherry Wheat pours to a hazy, opaque, deep golden to amber color with a thick and creamy white head, and a lively carbonation. The nose on this beer is very inviting with aromas of sour cherry and grainy malt aroma. The palate has lots of good grainy and tart wheat malt flavors, with a nice undertone of sweet and sour cherry flavor. Cherry Wheat finishes with more tart and refreshing wheat malt flavor up front, then ends with a pleasing, slightly sour cherry flavor that lingers. This is a fantastic draught only version of Cherry Wheat that can only be found pouring at one place, the brewpub in Ashburn. It is a great drinking beer, and it works well with some dishes on the OD brewpub menu, especially the BBQ pulled pork sandwich.

Draught @ Brewery: Smells cherry. Cloudy golden color. Some particles. Small, diminishing white head. Cherry flavor is very sour. Initial thought was "ewww." Awful taste. A little creamy. Makes your lips pucker.

Draft... Looks, smells and tastes like a traditional German wheat ale. I barely noticed the cherries behind the banana, clove and bubble gum. Pretty darn good.

Minimal head atop very cloudy amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, cherry, cardemom, light lemon. Taste is medium sweet, cherry, orange peel, cardemom, some sourness, wheat. Bubbly light-medium body.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. First off, I should say it’s not a style I relish too much - the few I’ve had have often seemed weedy and synthetic, but I didn’t pick that up here. Pinkish apricot colour - Mike’s pink grapefruit analogy is apt. Quite spicy aroma (cloves) with some banana. It can’t quite avoid elements of fruit cordial and bubblegum in the flavour, but that’s tempered by some sharpness that prevents it becoming too sickly. Finishes noticeably tart - almost sweet and sour. Decent stuff. On tap at the Dominion brewery.

Had this on draft at Dominion on 11/21/04. Reddened amber (looks like pink grapefruit juice, almost). Nose is fruity with light malt. Seemed a bit thin in the aroma department. Then again it was a sampler. Taste is much better; more rounded cherry flavor, light tartness, sweet malts, and light berry notes. Body is light-medium and well carbonated. Finishes with more fruity notes, light maltiness. Decent sweetness with the finish. Not bad!

Very hazy reddish hued amber body. American wheat aroma light cherry. The flavor is that of a soild American style wheat then towards the end a nice burst of sour cherry. Medium body. Dry finsih.

Hazy, big reddish. Nose is cherry and lightly wheaty. Tastes of cherry, a bit citric, and vaguely bready with some bubblegum. Very fizzy. Rather tasty
