jcwattsrugger (3942), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jul 15, 2007 on tap-pours an off white head and amber color. Aroma is medium malt, fruit. Taste is medium malt-caramel, faint hops bite. Mild carbonation. jasonp (1441), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Jun 3, 2007 On tap at Dominion. Pours clear dark gold/light copper with a white head. Toasted malt, grass and hay in the nose - kind of subtle. Flavor has notes of caramel, bread and a pleasant, balanced noble hop character. Not as hop accentuated as some other alts I have tried (which, however, isn’t that many, honestly). Moderate bitterness level. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A solid session beer. TheBeerLover (1013), DC Metro Area, USA Feb 13, 2007 Updated: Feb 14, 2007Draught at the brewpub in Ashburn, VA. Pours to a beautiful, bright, copper color, with a creamy, white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose is malty, with lots of good sweet and nutty malt aroma, paired with faint herbal hop aroma. The palate is clean, and round, with good toasty and nutty malt flavors, paired with some herbal/grassy hop flavor. This beer finishes with more good nutty and toasy malt up front, then ends with a pungent/zesty, herbal and grassy hop bite that lingers. A good domestic example of altbier with good malt and hop character. I love the hop bite of this beer. I would have liked more hop aroma in the nose, but I really enjoyed the malty aroma in this one. Stylistically there are better altbiers out there, but this is a very tasty, very drinkable beer. I really enjoyed this one.
