Commercial Description:
Dominion Lager is brewed using four types of malted barley: Two-Row Pale Brewer’s malt, Munich, Carapils, and Caramel. The bittering hops are Perle and Hallertau from the Yakima Valley in Washington State. The aromatic hops are domestic Tettnang, German Hallertau Hersbrucker, and Czech Saaz. This combination of malt and hops, along with a classic lager yeast from Germany, and the long, low-temperature lagering process results in a mild, smooth, flavorful, complex beer that is a delight to drink.

(Bottle) Pours a medium brown color with a thick head. Had a chemical aroma and taste. Not a good beer.

Murky, dark golden color. White sticky head with clingy lacing. Chemical-like aroma. Flavor is slightly bready with some trailing yeastiness. Overall, slightly sour. Thick mouthfeel but it gets lost with a very artificial, pasty aftertaste. Overall, not a bad lager but leaves you feeling if something is missing. Needs work.

A really nice woodland label with the deer, which I've been seeing littering the road up here in Virginia. Dry malty and bready aroma. Nothing much going on in the flavor -- crackery, a little musky. Initially a little overcarbonated. A crisp and tart finish with some residual muskiness. I was a little disappointed in this regional, but the price wasn't bad.

Light, clear golden color with little to no head. Hoppy/malty balanced aroma. Smooth and crisp taste. One of the better lagers I've had! On tap at the City Cafe in Manassas, VA.

I never expect much from any lager, but this is a very complex brew. Malty aroma and up-front mouthfeel, but it had a very interesting sour aftertaste that did nothing but add to the experience. Excellent beer.

RERATE: I am having my second one and I don't think I gave this beer justice. It is just a fantasic lager. Forms a large white head with lacing in a not so clean glass. A nice and crisp taste that is soft in front and just a little weak in the back. One of my new favorite lagers.

***Update 1/18/04: Sampled from bottle. Nowhere near as good as the off tap I had at Dominion. Take a full point off my rating if this is in the bottle*** The absolute best lager I've ever had. Before this beer I thought lager was synonomous with american macrobrew crap, but this beer is like no other. Golden body with a generous, thick white head. Smells hoppy. Flavor is a large amount of hops up front with tasty oatmeal malt and yeast. Definately try this beer, it will change your opinion on Lagers. Had this off tap during the Old Dominion Brewery Tour in Ashburn, VA.

This is a good lager. It is something like dominion's ale but without the aggressive hop presence.
