| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 12, 2006 12 oz bottle, dated November 17th, 2006. Pours a beautiful golden-amber color; head quickly disappears to reveal a cognac-like liquid underneath. Generous aroma: plenty of piney and citrus hops, brown sugar. Remarkably well-balanced and drinkable for a newly released bottle: gentle oak toastiness, vanilla, chewy bourbon, slightly buttery (diacetyl, in a good way); plenty of maple sugar and piney hops in the mouthfeel. So drinkable it’s appalling; the hops don’t predominate, and the barrel-aging is well-incorporated into the malt backbone. Finishes smooth: warm vanilla oakiness and sweet bourbon. I can’t think of a barleywine I’ve enjoyed more than this one. madsberg (5049), Søborg, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 1, 2006 Bottled. Orange coloured. Unclear. Small beige head. Herbal and flowery aroma with some sweet barral notes. Ripe fruits and raisins detectable. Flavour as well is herbal and flowery but a bit dominated by the barral wood thing. Maybe a bit too much. Liqourice and caramel notable. Is quite sherry like and quite pleasant and smooth. Full bodied. Alcohol is notable as warmth on palate and lips and directly in the flavours. Berries and sweetness dominates the end with a light touch of bitterness. Thanks to chris for sending this in a trade. Good one. I probably would be up there ringing hadn’t it been for the IMO too domimant barralwood thing. Ungstrup (15371), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 29, 2006 A hazy dark amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet with lots of overripe fruits, as well as light notes of alcohol, caramel, and lemon. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of alcohol and overripe fruits, leading to an end with notes of citrus combined with a bitternes, and a alcohol burn lingering on the tongue. Very sweet fruity (pineapple) bourbon flavour with notes of oak, toffee and alcohol. Some hops in the finish. Medium to full bodied. Too sweet as many bourbon barrel aged barley wines. maeib (4760), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England
