Commercial Description:
We have just solved a brewery mystery (and it is delicious). We wondered what would happen if we put 2004 Dominion Millennium in oak barrels that had bourbon in them for five years. Three months later we had Oak Barrel Millennium. Something special, we think. Ruby-red color with a wide range of complex flavors. Malt and sherry predominate.

Bottle. [<a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 target=_new> Courtesy of kmweaver]. Light unclear medium amber color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy berry - plum, raisin, wood, some caramel, fruity - tropic, notes of vanilla. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - smooth, carbonation is soft. (260408)

November 2006 bottle, aged 1.5 years. Pours a hazy, dark honey color. A frothy, off-white head settles to a thin blanket with a prominent edge. Thin, jagged lines of lacing decorate the glass well. The aroma is heavy on bourbon and oak, with big, buttery toffee malts, vanilla, and faded, zesty citrus hops. Flavors are well blended, with the bourbon and vanilla integrated into the sweet caramel and toffee notes. Woody oak is quite prominent, going so far as to impose an almost sour component. There is a residual bitterness from the citrus hops, but they don’t pop like they likely would when fresh. Finishes a little warm from the alcohol, with lingering, funky oak. Medium-full, smooth body with low carbonation. Very much in the mold of Fred From The Wood, just not as well crafted. Overall, a very nice brew. A little heat and out-of-place funkiness holds it back from elite status.

The color was amber. The head was creamy, thin, and off-white. The aroma was alcohol, oak, bourbon, and tart. The flavor was sweet, oak, alcohol, and bourbon. The palate was full-bodied. The finish was warm.

Thanks mj. 2006 vintage. Pours a peachy amber with a thin yellowish head. The nose has some pretty strong whiskey, even after two years, oak, vanilla, sour oak, light alcohol, sweet. The flavor is very heavy on the oak and then the bourbon, alcohol, sweet, malty. Nice mouthfeel, finishes with some sour oak and alcohol. Nice BW.

Bottle from BT. Orange-amber pour with a white head. Pineapple, wood, alcohol, and bitter zest in the aroma. Marmalade. Good flavor - not overly sweet and there’s an interesting sour component there. The candi sugar is there in the background, but it’s a little different than any barley wine that I’ve had. It’s very good, but I feel I need to have it again to get a proper rating.

12 oz bottle. Quite similar to its sibling in nature. Perhaps a bit richer in color and flavor, but marginally better. Pours a thick looking amber/brown with a virtually nonexistent white head leaving minimal lacing. Toasted vanilla, overripe tropical fruit, moist wood, toffee and a touch of alcohol on the nose. Flavor is dominated by a sherry nuttiness. Vanilla, alcohol, caramel and a good amount of toasty biscuit malt on the tongue. Medium to full bodied. Slightly viscous. Finishes with a decent rum soaked vanilla bean kick. Thanks Tim!

bottle.....looks just like its younger brother. caramel brown with a white ring around the edge.... aroma is a little bit sweeter, more vanilla-ey and brandyesque but still much dominated by caramel and toffe malt..... flavors are a major improvement. the barrel does this one wonders. more bourbon and vanilla notes come into play while intermingling with the caramel malts. still sweet but not cloyingly so.....
