| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 12, 2007 Bottle. Average beige fizzy head that mostly diminished. Spare lacework. Light cloudy amber color. Spare lacework. Amazing mix of rye bread, oak and vinous aroma. Over the palate notes of fruit, raisins, caramel and heavy notes of vanilla. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and light dry texture. Moderated sweet flavor with light bitter notes. Fantastic complex and dry finish with notes of wood and vanilla as some of the dominant notes which lingers for long time. Brigadier (1246), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

I’ve been getting close to the end of purging a few beers from the cellar that make space. This was one of the last. It came from a trade though I didn’t keep track of who it was.
Aroma / Appearance - A one finger ash white head decorated the top, floating above a caramel brown liquid. Cedar chips, rust, resin and wood permeate the room. It’s not terribly complex but it does have some character to it.
Flavor / Palate - The creamy mouthfeel could be a little stronger. Resin, malt and wood stain coat the interior of the mouth before the oakiness and caramel take over. It is well balanced for being aged in a barrel. The overall experience is a little mellow and light for a barleywine. Otherwise there weren’t too many flaws to pick up on. mreusch (742), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 2, 2007 Bottle, courtesy of hopdog (thanks Steve), bottling date 112006. Pours a clear light amber with a two finger light tan head, minor lacing. Aroma is oak, vanilla, honey, caramel candy, and just a touch of sweet bourbon alcohol. Flavor follows nicely, with a more subtle but well-suited blend of the aromas; alcohol is well hidden and bourbon is gentle and complimentary. Palate is like a thin syrup, medium carbonation, and a slick mouthfeel. A very nice offering, and glad I got a chance to try. beastiefan2k (1605), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 23, 2007 From nflmvp. Aroma is cherry/sherry alcohol, cheap fruit punch, some vegetable. Overall a nasty sweetness. Taste is light orange and lots of barleywine alcohol. A light body and overall not impressive beer. Very astringent artificial sweetness all over this beer. Will put another bottle away for a while, maybe some age will improve this mess. 12oz bottle, bottled 11/20/06, Hobgoblin tulip glass. wetherel (1641), Encinitas, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 20, 2007 Bottle from kmweaver. Bottled in Nov 2006. Thanks Ken! Pours with a small head of small bubbles relaxing to form small isolated clouds on the surface of a slightly cloudy amber liquid. The bubble cling to glass in a continuous veil as I swirl. Aroma is a fun combination of buttery caramelized melanoidin malt and oak. I find myself smelling it over and over again. The beer is sweet mellow and easy to drink. The bourbon is hard to detect.
