Commercial Description:
We have just solved a brewery mystery (and it is delicious). We wondered what would happen if we put 2004 Dominion Millennium in oak barrels that had bourbon in them for five years. Three months later we had Oak Barrel Millennium. Something special, we think. Ruby-red color with a wide range of complex flavors. Malt and sherry predominate.

12 oz bottle, dated November 17th, 2006. Pours a beautiful golden-amber color; head quickly disappears to reveal a cognac-like liquid underneath. Generous aroma: plenty of piney and citrus hops, brown sugar. Remarkably well-balanced and drinkable for a newly released bottle: gentle oak toastiness, vanilla, chewy bourbon, slightly buttery (diacetyl, in a good way); plenty of maple sugar and piney hops in the mouthfeel. So drinkable it’s appalling; the hops don’t predominate, and the barrel-aging is well-incorporated into the malt backbone. Finishes smooth: warm vanilla oakiness and sweet bourbon. I can’t think of a barleywine I’ve enjoyed more than this one.

Creamy vanilla malt bomb with a strong sherry-like aroma but a rather medium palate despite its luscious oak-y qualities. Some butterscotch covered hops are in here as well. Thank you afterexile for sharing!!!!

Bottle: Brown with a reddish tint. Nice little creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet and seductive, faint oak and a lively maltiness. Tastes of light barrel aged notes, bits of vanilla, and a welcome amount of fruitiness. Not being well acquainted with sherry, but I think that is playing a role too. Easy to sip, seems to age well as I received this in trade from someone last year... Thanks for sending this to Boise!

Bottle: Pours a muddy copper color with light head and lacing. The nose is dark and woody with lots of bourbony oak notes and sweet fermented fruit; cherry, fig, vanilla. Some sherry as it goes on with more of that alcohol. The flavor is nice and rich with a oaky alcohol soaked wood and vanilla note that overflows the palate with flavor and thickness. Not a thick body, just the intense woody notes. The finish is smooth and lively. Nice!

12-oz. bottle, 2006 vintage, received via trade with sloth. Pours hazy tawny with a small, fizzy, off-white head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), heavy hops (flowers, perfume, pine), average yeast (dough, leather) with notes of bourbon, oak, sherry, and vanilla. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

12 oz bottle, 11/06. Milky pink brown with white sudsy edges. Nose is toffee and over-ripe cantaloupe. Medium light but seems a bit watery; minimal carb. Taste is butterscotch, apple brandy and grass. Smooth oaky touches but overall somewhat faded.
