Beerlando (1135), Orlando, Florida, USA May 10, 2008 November 2006 bottle, aged 1.5 years. Pours a hazy, dark honey color. A frothy, off-white head settles to a thin blanket with a prominent edge. Thin, jagged lines of lacing decorate the glass well. The aroma is heavy on bourbon and oak, with big, buttery toffee malts, vanilla, and faded, zesty citrus hops. Flavors are well blended, with the bourbon and vanilla integrated into the sweet caramel and toffee notes. Woody oak is quite prominent, going so far as to impose an almost sour component. There is a residual bitterness from the citrus hops, but they don’t pop like they likely would when fresh. Finishes a little warm from the alcohol, with lingering, funky oak. Medium-full, smooth body with low carbonation. Very much in the mold of Fred From The Wood, just not as well crafted. Overall, a very nice brew. A little heat and out-of-place funkiness holds it back from elite status.
Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle. Exactly what this beer needed. Soak in in bourbon rid the hop presence and leave behind a nice etoh whiskey to bring out what i love in a good BW. Great beer with the vanilla and sweet malt to balance the abv. illinismitty (1321), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 11, 2008 Updated: Jun 12, 2008Bottled 11-17-06 (my daughter’s b day) courtesy of Shigadeyo. Pours a nice orange amber with thick light beige head. Nice aroma of toffee candy, vanilla, maple, and cognac. Medium bodied, slightly oily with no stickiness and a soft effervescent-like carbonation. Initial flavor of caramel, toffee, and raisen that transitions to a spicy and subtle vanilla middle. Peppery bitter bite on the finish with some dry woody accents and alcohol warming. This is not bad. Everything plays well together- it just needs an all star trait to push this to the next level. A bit pricey to warrant a six pack. fonefan (4045), Ulfborg, Denmark Jun 3, 2008 Bottle. [<a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=30520 target=_new> Courtesy of kmweaver].
