Glouglouburp (2113), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 29, 2008 In short: A crisp and almost light-feeling barley wine with well integrated barrels and good happing. Above average
How: Bottle 12oz, consumed when about one year old. From kmweaver, thanks a lot Ken
The look: Cloudy orangy-brown body topped by a long-lasting small beige head
In long: Nose of caramel candy. Body feels surprisingly light for the style. Very sweet beer with taste originally blending sweet flavours of sugar pie, maple syrup and crisp caramel and fruity flavours of citrus and orange. Finish has a lot of leafy and citrusy hops drying and softening the beer more than providing bitterness. The oak barrels are apparent from beginning to end and even add a light oaky sourness. There is some alcohol presence but not 11.4%. A very good beer, maybe today I did not drink the most interesting beer of the millennium but the Millennium is the most interesting best beer I drank today. JFURYCAT (742), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2008 Creamy vanilla malt bomb with a strong sherry-like aroma but a rather medium palate despite its luscious oak-y qualities. Some butterscotch covered hops are in here as well. Thank you afterexile for sharing!!!! jake65 (1326), Meridian, Idaho, USA Sep 17, 2008 Bottle: Brown with a reddish tint. Nice little creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet and seductive, faint oak and a lively maltiness. Tastes of light barrel aged notes, bits of vanilla, and a welcome amount of fruitiness. Not being well acquainted with sherry, but I think that is playing a role too. Easy to sip, seems to age well as I received this in trade from someone last year... Thanks for sending this to Boise! BückDich (4605), Boise, Idaho, USA Sep 17, 2008 Bottle: Pours a muddy copper color with light head and lacing. The nose is dark and woody with lots of bourbony oak notes and sweet fermented fruit; cherry, fig, vanilla. Some sherry as it goes on with more of that alcohol. The flavor is nice and rich with a oaky alcohol soaked wood and vanilla note that overflows the palate with flavor and thickness. Not a thick body, just the intense woody notes. The finish is smooth and lively. Nice! BeerandBlues2 (2630), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 20, 2008 12-oz. bottle, 2006 vintage, received via trade with sloth. Pours hazy tawny with a small, fizzy, off-white head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), heavy hops (flowers, perfume, pine), average yeast (dough, leather) with notes of bourbon, oak, sherry, and vanilla. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.
