elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA May 30, 2007 Pours a copper brown color with no head. Has hints of caramel, malts, oak. Has a hoppy bite toward the end of the beer. Finishes with a dry sweet taste on the tongue. Thanks Dragonstout. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA May 29, 2007 Is it possible got a bad bottle?I read the other rates and they don’t match what I tasted.Beer was not sweet but bitter. As you drank this more and more the bitterness came out.Did not rival a barley wine at all. hoppymeal (38), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA May 6, 2007 Pours a dark copper with hints of red. Smells of caramel sweet maltness. White grape and raisiny sweet scents are also present. Tastes lightly of prunes and golden raisins. Very well balanced, the sweetness comes across first followed by a slight bitterness and a small but warm and pleasing alcohol bite makes itself present in the finish. Similar in many ways to TCOA in my opinion. Very enjoyable barley wine.
buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA May 3, 2007 I think I have typed this phrase about a hundred times but here it goes again... "Thank you shigadeyo for trading this to me". Pours a deep hazy amber with a small head. A big fermented fruit aroma. Plum, prune, apricot maybe??? It smells damn rich. Flavor is sort of bitter. Malts, fruits, caramel, wheats , and barleys. This one sure goes down smooth. It has only been about 5 minutes and it is about half gone. I need to slow this one down a little. Thanks again Craig. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA May 2, 2007 Lots of malt and alcohol dominate the aroma.Pours a deep copper/brown with a medium off white head.Big malt flavor along with hints of alcohol and some hops in the flavor.Full mouthfeel with a lot of alcohol in the finish. Speedle (262), Mid-Atlantic (Tour 2007-2008), Virginia, USA May 1, 2007 Updated: Feb 28, 2008Re-Rate 2/28/08 .... bottled 2/1/08 ... new label and from what I remember a different description ... same name but says "Premium Ale Brewed with Honey" ... amber pour with a thin white head ....sweet malt aroma with light hops in the background ... this is GOOD ...bitter start and finish .... alcohol in the aftertaste, but not overpowering .... medium to thick mouthfeel but not syrupy .... alcohol is more pronounced as it warms ... this has a nice IPA and strong ale balance ... I’m thinking that this probably the same recipe as last year ... still awesome
original rating 5/1/2007 (4.2) copper brown...better head than I expected...sweet malty aroma...big body with a hop bite....fruitiness helps to disguise the high alcohol content...what a great beer, much better than some of the other barley wines I’ve tasted YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany Apr 27, 2007 Brown color wiht a small head legging around. Plum a bit sugary taste. Spiecey finsish with lot’s of alcohol. WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Apr 21, 2007 2/06 vintage 12 oz bottle via trade with The Eepiest, Side by Side with Oak Aged Millenium. Pours orange with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet and caramel and bigger and bolder than the oak aged version. The taste is sweet, a bit spicy with a bit of hop character and some warming in the throat. There are definite differences but they are hard to peg down. The regular version is more defined and crisp with flavor that can be deteceted independently. The Oak aged version is more of a muddle, it isn’t bad but it blends more, all the tastes build upon one another. There is more character in the OA version though, close call my friends close call.
