kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 13, 2007 12 oz bottle, Feb 2004 vintage. Pours a slightly hazy orangish amber colored body under a fizzy, quickly fading, beige head that receded to a thin ring. Nose is toffee and lightly caramel maltiness with a touch of oxidation. Moderate alcohol, some yeast, and brown sugar. Flavor shows some heavier oxidation than the nose. Papery notes overtake the toffee sweetness up front and it finishes with some light soy, yeast, and alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly creamy in texture with nice soft fine carbonation. Finishes with minimal stickiness and some light alcoholic heat. Overall, this was about what I expected from a lightly bottle conditioned 2004 Barley Wine. Still quite drinkable and enjoyable, but I don’t think that this would improve with more aging. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 1, 2007 Bottle
Pours a slightly cloudy orange-brown with a prolonged head. Unfortunately the hops in this one are suffering; the aroma is too cheesy and indeed those aspects of the aroma actually outweigh the mild sweet flavor. I’m left with a beer that iis modestly spiced, with the usual caramel and hints of citrus. It’s a rather ordinary barleywine, and it’s really nothing special in my book. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA Dec 28, 2006 From bottle. Pours a golden orange with tan head, nice sticky lacing. Sweet malt nose, maybe some light caramel. Flavor follows with a nice bitter finish. Smooth palate. Excellent. coldbrewky (716), Saugerties, New York, USA Dec 26, 2006 Thanks Bertlyfor getting me on to this one.....Small tan head, lasting. Hazy brown with a copper hue. Malty, fruity nose, hints of vanilla and alcohol as it warms. Med/full body, coating. Good chewy malt flavor, toffeeish, along with a helthy dose of hops and some alcohol too. Finish is medium dry. A well made and highly drinkable barleywine jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Dec 17, 2006 From a twist cap 12 oz. bottle with a bottling date in the upper right hand corner, 02.16.06, sampled at cellar temperature in a chalice.
Poured a bright orangey copper with a foamy, bubbly off-white head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing.
Aromas of caramel covered figs, toasted grains and honey, earthy hops and whiffs of alcohol.
Good moderate carbonation and a crisp, creamy smooth medium bodied mouthfeel.
Tastes of caramel, buttery toffee and pineapple, a honey sweetness, a light graininess the mixes with the alcohol, the alcohol is also warming in the palate, a soft herbal, earthy hoppiness, and a dry oily, malty and pineapple fruity finish.
An excellent English-style barley wine, tasty with a easy sipping drinkability, a must try for anyone who likes barley wines.
Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Dec 6, 2006 12/02/06 Walk the Line Barleywine Festival, Dunedin, FL. 2005 vintage. Hazy orange color with a white head. The aroma was mostly citrus hops. The flavor seems dominated by orange citrus hops, some pine hoppiness and a bit of sweet caramel. Very tasty.
12/02/06 Walk the Line Barleywine Festival, Dunedin, FL. 2001 vintage. This one seemed a bit more tart. I think there may have been a problem with this particular bottle. .
12/02/06 Walk the Line Barleywine Festival, Dunedin, FL. 2000 vintage. This one also poured somewhat hazy orange to light amber with little head. The aroma was very light. The hop bitterness and flavor were much softer than the ’05. The ABV was unnoticed. Really nice beer.
moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Nov 24, 2006 Dark golden brown color. The aroma is sugary, with yeast and wood scents coming through. Full, sticky, resiny palate is very nice. Full malt flavor with a nice sticky hop presence. Really enjoyed this one. BrewDad (2363), Olympia, Washington, USA Nov 22, 2006 [12oz Bottle] Deep dark reddish color. Little to no head. A strong malt character with a high amount of alcohol and a strong strong taste. The caramel flavor was all through out the taste. This was a very very good Barley wine. One of the best.
