alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Nov 11, 2006 Bottle. Color was an opaque, golden auburn. Aroma of malt, caramel, and alcohol. Taste was much of the same; a somewhat chewy palate feel. Not complex enough; flavors did not blend all that well. Above average beer, but not too amazing. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Oct 31, 2006 12-oz. Pours dark, cloudy amber with a thick, moussy off-white head. Ultra toffee-infused nose; plenty of caramel, too. Piney notes bring up a distant rear. Thick but not chewy or overbearing body; fairly moderate carb. More malt (toffee and caramel extraordinaire) on the palate, with a wee bit of pine following for that final kiss. Not really much varied or terribly interesting--just a metric ton of malts, and those within a fairly conventional and narrow range. Beers don’t have to be experimental to be good, but this one’s just too timid. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Oct 30, 2006 12oz bottle shared at Columbus tasting 2.0 by moejuck! - Thanks! - Pours amber with a short offwhite head and light lacing. Aromas of big grapefruit and pine hops and faint caramel tucked behind that. Flavor is lots of hops up front with grapefruit and pine blending to orange and to caramel. Good malt backbone.. Sticky palate with good balance and the alcohol is covered well. I liked this one a lot! sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 30, 2006 Bottle shared by moejuck: Orange with a white head. Aroma, caramel, some mildly spicy hops. Flavor, caramel, spicy hops, decent brew, but my palate may have been shot at this point. I’m sure I’ll have it again. cthulu81 (29), Woodbridge, Virginia, USA Oct 22, 2006 Being a new resident of Virginy, I have yet to really be floored by this local brewery’s offerings. Today however, I stumbled upon an ’05 bottle of this barley wine. Since cellaring stuff on my own was a grevious encroachment of my waffer-thin will power, this pre-aged find was a double gold star. So, what do we have here? A honeyed-amber body with a suitable creamy ring around the glass edge. Plumped up golden raisins soaked in rum escape the goblet and remind me thar be alcohol in this here brew. Candied orange zest, molasses, lightly aged rum and a spiced corriander/ pepper finish reassert the beer’s barley wine stylings. Clean finish, for a b-wine, and contains a freshness that keeps me drinking. Or perhaps that is just my barely contained alcoholism bringing the glass to my face again and again until the pain and sorrow melts away into a fuzzy nothingness. Ah, sweet release. Oh yeah, back to the beer. All in all, a good barley wine and perhaps my favorite offering from Dominion thus far. Cheers. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 22, 2006 hoppy apricot gummy aroma-barley muscat wine puncent. amber with garnet tinge, short beige fine layer. hoppy, citrus fresh for a barleywine, less heavy, more quaffable, rummy coriander, medium complexity, crisp. ceamy palate with a crisp bite. Excellent. LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Oct 20, 2006 Bottled 16 Feb 2006. Clear golden color with a small off white head. Aroma of orange and malt with a citrus bitter finish. pivo (2535), Germany Aug 29, 2006 Big sweet malt nose - molasses and vanilla. Rudy amber, low head around the edges. Sugary sweet middle, hints of dark fruits like raisins and figs. Spicy bitter end. Thick body, alcohol warms the throat.
