GMCC2181 (845), Bear, Delaware, USA Aug 21, 2009 I hope this is the right beer... Different label and alcohol percentage... Any way... Bottle (2008) Poured into a snifter, glowing red, nice head that faded quickly. Sweet malt with a touch of honey aroma... Taste is a nice smooth, malty beer. Light fruit characteristics..A little citurs and cinamon.. Even though its has light body its far from weak or watery. I like it alot.. thewombat (112), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jul 29, 2009 Bottle. This beer smells like pizza. Savory, slightly herbal. Pours light brown with almost no head. Light well-balanced palate, but it tastes astringent, bitter and a bit alcoholic. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Jul 25, 2009 Pours copper with a thin tan head. Smells of resiny hops, spicy, earthy. Tastes of dark fruit, earthy, some molasses. Boozy finish. 2002 vintage. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Jul 18, 2009 12oz bottle via secret santa. Pours a clear copper with an average size chunky beige head. Nose is alocholic and spicy. Tastes like it smells with a bit of earthiness, figs, and a wee bit of scotch in the aftertaste. Body is medium, carbonation is just right. A pretty good barleywine that likely would age well. Alc is well hidden. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Jun 12, 2009 12oz bottle from Rodman’s. Pours a transparent orange with a thin, fast fading white head. Low carbonation level. Aroma is sticky hops, sticky fruits, sticky caramel sugars. Flavor has more sticky fruits, apples, oranges, pears, grass, booze, rum. Medium mouthfeel, 11.4% hides well. Doubt this needs much aging, it’s ready to drink now. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 8, 2009 11 ounce goblet - $4.25 at Taco Mac in Buford, Georgia.
Appearance: Arrived at Table Fifty-Three a clear, dark amber body with a thin, fine, egg shell-colored head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling, fruit-scented nose of malts (brown sugar, then dark caramel, then Grade B maple syrup) and fresh-made chutney with an overall earthiness to it and marked by whiffs of alcohol.
Taste: Sweet tastes brown sugar and dark caramel with just a touch of chewy breadiness to the overall maltiness. Fruity mixture of ripe cherry, apple, and discarded plumskins which, along with the booze contained within, gives these tastes a slight liqueur feel to them. Sure, I’m willing to cheerfully accept a certain amount of alcohol, but the level of heat its imparting is rather unbecoming. Hint of cinnamon with a wry, knowing wink and the "shhh" finger. Earthy, woody hop character with maybe a light vague touch of citrus. Moderate hop bitterness. Then, it’s back to the fruits swirled in brown sugar and maple syrup. Finishes fruity, bittersweet, and with more than a noticeable hint of alcoholic heat.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: At this stage, it’s still a bit coarse and unrefined, but it’s basically good. Though it does make me more than wistful for a bottle of J.W. Lee’s Harvest Ale or, hell, one of my older bottles of Oak Barrel-Aged Millennium. I’m just sayin’! LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Jun 5, 2009 Appearance: Pours a cloudy orange with a modest 1/4 inch white head.
Aroma: Resinous hops, grapefruit, and some caramel malts.
Taste: Bitterness, some caramel, some citrus, and some warm booze.
Mouthfeel: Thick.
Overall: Not offensive, not impressive, just average for a barleywine. dasMario (1), Oakton, Virginia, USA does not count May 24, 2009 Bottle brewed in February 2009. Hands down my absolute favourite beer from Dominion Brewing Company! Strong hoppy citrusy aroma, with a flavour reminiscent of orange, dried apricot, golden raisins, and honey. The finish is excellent with lovely hints of cinnamon, ginger, and white pepper. Cheers!
