Goes down smooth, a little heavy at first, but not filling, Sweet aroma, I didn’t realize the alcohol rating on this one until I started feeling very very relaxed. Didn’t help that this one was consumed post-Alagash Dubbel. Philip (436), Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 13, 2006 2001 Vintage courtesy of Rob (and I think Illinismitty had something to do with this, so thanks to him as well) and poured at Rob’s gathering. Sampled alongside an 03 Smuttynose and 03 Dogwood Excellent Adv. Its certainly showing its age and the virtues of laying this down, although I wonder if its just a tad (maybe 1 year) past its peak. Hard to tell, but I thought it had some hints of starting to slide. There’s nutmeg and plum, and some notes of apple cider and apple cider spices. Its drinkable despite the 10.4 ABV. Well done. Not as exceptional as the others, a bit thinner and not as flavorful, but still very good. Thanks, Rob! YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 11, 2006 Didn’t think this would have such a high rating. It’s good but not exceptional. Reddish amber with a small off-whitre head. Aroma was brown sugar, honey, spice, dried fruit, malt. Smooth mouthfeel, medium body, low carbonation. Some alcohol warmth in the drinking, moderate sweetness, spice. A respectable but not exceptional barleywine. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 5, 2006 Slightly sweet and malty with a mild alcohol burn. I enjoyed it very much, but such a big beer would have been better on a chilly evening. Hope to try more. illinismitty (1795), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 4, 2006 Updated: Jul 5, 2006Botted 2-16-06. Nice aroma of sugary caramel, honey, yeast, bold like a barlywine should be. Pours amber red with off white head. Flavor is very heavy on caramel and dried fruit, that transitions to a semi dry and pleasantly bitter finish. Slight warming. Not an aggressively hopped barleywine, nor a thick mouthfeel, but still very enjoyable. I enjoy this one as much as Bigfoot. A good barleywine for those with a developing palate TheOrange (405), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 27, 2006 This is a beautiful beer. I had the chance to stop in the Old Dominion Brewery on a Business trip to VA. The Body is has a nice red hue, the head was small to nill. The aroma was sweat, but slight. The beer is full bodied, with a nice hoppy nose and good clean finish. Great bear worth the trip to VA. Tmoney99 (4713), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 25, 2006 Bottle. Poured clear dark amber with a large frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Heavy tart citrus caramel nutty aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture. Medium complex sweet flavor with a medium balanced finish that was long lasting. This is a standout beer. OldRaspy (292), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 15, 2006 Poured from a 12oz bottle reddish amber with a small beige head that disappears quickly and leaves behind some good lacing. Aroma was full of caramel, malts, yeast, honey and spices. Body was medium kinda syurpy. Flavor was just wonderful, lots of caramel and spices with a great alcohol warming finish. Hats off to Dominion for this one.
