Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Dec 6, 2005 Bottle. Amber colour with a small off-white head. Hoppy, light alcoholic, malty aroma and taste. Medium to full body and a sweet hoppy light alcoholic finish. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Dec 5, 2005 Orange colour with a small off white head. Malty and fruity aroma with a nice hoppyness and a balanced alcohol note. Hoppy bitter flavor with some malty caramel sweetness and a faint alcohol finish. RedHaze (370), Where the hell am I?, Nebraska, USA Dec 4, 2005 Pours a slightly hazy coppery color with a quarter inch off-white head that fades failry quickly to a spotty cap that leaves mild lacing.
Smell; a bit of sweet honey and some hints of toffee at first, strong piney hops, and some cherries.
Taste; the hops hit at first, by dark fruits, and followed by slightly sweet honey and toffee background, and finishing with a bit a an alcohol bite. Mouthfeel is full bodied and just slightly oily/slick.
joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 4, 2005 Bottled.
Clear orange coloured with a white head.
Sweet aroma of malts, caramel, hops and pine needles.
Flavour of malts, hops, pine needles and caramel. hershiser2 (902), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Nov 10, 2005 Bottle. Pours cloudy amberish red with a dusting of a head. Looks thick and a bit cloudy. Aromas of deep fruitiness and lots and lots of malts. Highly fruited malt flavor with a zip and a tangy aftertaste, but not metallic (which is nice). Alcohol isn’t well masked, but it defitely doesn’t taste like 10+%. A bit too sweet for me to want to drink on a regular basis, but once in awhile is ok. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Nov 7, 2005 Vintages 98 through ’03 Copper in color with no head to little white head as the vintage was younger. Aroma was fruity, slightly vinous and caramel malt charcater. Warming body washes over your palate on all vintages. Older version show less sweeteness a slightly drier finish. Over all a nice barleywine and it appears to cellar well. Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Oct 27, 2005 Bottle: Poured a reddish/orange color ale with a small off-white foamy head with good retention. Aroma of honey, strong malt and bitter hops. Taste is sweet caramel with a full body and a creamy texture. Lots of bitter hops can feel at the end with a warming feeling. Very good barleywine but maybe a tad too sweet for my liking. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 16, 2005 Not very barley wine-ish. Very full bodied. Almost syrupy. Mostly malty but some hops are thrown in there.
