| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 23, 2004 Copper/orange in colour. Aroma of sugar, quite floral, some alcohol and rather sweet. Flavour of floral hops, some alcohol, very sweet. Smooth medium-large body. Finishes with a mild warming alcohol bitterness. A bit to young. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Apr 22, 2004 Pours a translucent red with medium head that fades quickly. Aroma of caramel, a bit of coffee, and sometimes grapefruit. The flavor is caramel and port brought alive by noticable but pleasent alcohol and citrusy hops. The palate is of a watery syrup. The alcohol on the finish is a bit harsh but just a bit. The aftertaste is long and changing and eventually fades to that of cotton candy. Very nice beer. SG (456), San Clemente, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 19, 2004 Sweet and fruity aromas go along with the expected slightly caramelish tinge. It's a nice reddish-orangey-brown with minimal head. A little too sweet but very smooth - no hint of the alcohol. It's light but it has a nice mouthfeel. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 15, 2004 Light amber color with a moderate off white head. Aromas of pineapple, sugar cookies, light caramel and floral hops. Quite relaxing aroma. Some light tropical fruit with oranges, peaches and toffee. Smooth and mellow. A light joan of arc brew. Another outstanding selection provided via jeffc666. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 11, 2004 Updated: Apr 13, 2004Bottled: Jan 2003. The nose here is sweetish and very normal (as in highly carmelized sugar; Maris Otter?) - The color is vibrant glowing orangish. In the mouth: Bitter bitter, yes, citrus peel, but more - like chard or other bitter greens, or even dirt. Wow. Fascinating flavors. By all means, some traditional sugars and oaky caramelly stuff, but weird, and I love it. Thanks pabobcat! Yankovitch333 (612), Chesapeake City, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 6, 2004 Poured a reddish copper with a thin fizzy white head that didn't last. Orange peel and hops on the nose. Was almost like Grand Marinier. Orange, hops, vanilla, and a little bit of alcohol. Dry finish. A really nice barley wine. But lots of orange. jasonp (1509), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 21, 2004 Updated: May 27, 2005Pours a beautiful, glowing dark amber. Great alcoholy, malty, bourbon like aroma. Tastes sweet with dark fruits, sherry, honey, pipe tobacco, some wood, grapefruit, pepper and a ton of hops. Some alcohol detected in the finish. Medium smooth body but a bit on the thin side with subtle carbonation. Overall, very good stuff.
1998 Vintage: Pours a hazy apple cider like color with a very small head. Aroma is of port wine and dark fruits. Taste is expectedly sweet/syrupy and refined. Although the brew has a strong alcohol presense it has definitely mellowed and matured over time. Taste also has notes of honey, mustiness, earth, pipe tobacco, plums, nuts, english hops and some bitterness. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy.
