Starts modest sourish, gets stronger and stronger, very complex, a bit alcoholic, but also very fine spicy, again notes of cinnamon. Well balanced finish. A great beer! mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2007 Pours a hazy caramel brown with a small white head. The smell really was all malt. Mild caramel, but the malt really stood out. The taste was slightly bitter, malty as expected, and pretty full flavored. Get some alcohol in the finish with a nice little bitter aftertaste that left some sweet caramel and brown sugar on the back of the tongue. Very nice. Crosling (1855), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 28, 2005 - Reddish orange color, with a small head. Well aged, melded malt aroma, sherry hints, caramel and toffee, with nice aroma hops, but the malt shines through in the nose. Very sweet and sugary, with honey laden malts, sherry and a well aged malt flavor. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 29, 2004 Bottle. Hazy, copper color with good lacing and a small head. Sweet rich malty and fruity aroma, a little dustiness with noticible alcohol and citrus hoppiness. Flavor is sweet with sour/tart notes, fruity, good hop bite and a big alcohol finish. Full bodied with some carbonation. Dorwart (1828), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 30, 2006 (2002 Vintage) Thin head of dense creamy off white bubbles. Low carbonation. Rich aroma with plenty of raisins, grapes, butter toffee and caramel. Hint of oxidative sourness but hidden behind all of the other great aromas. Color is a cloudy dark rusty brown. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a good helping of malts and plenty of alcohol. Body is a little thiner than expected from the aroma and the look of the liquid. Nice alcohol kick and warming. Some sweet malts and a bit of caramel. Light sherry notes in there (vinuous). Finish is clean and slightly dry with no oxidation present in the finish. No tartness either. This is a pretty good barleywine and a great representation of the style. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA

The nose here is sweetish and very normal (as in highly carmelized sugar; Maris Otter?) - The color is vibrant glowing orangish. In the mouth: Bitter bitter, yes, citrus peel, but more - like chard or other bitter greens, or even dirt. Wow. Fascinating flavors. By all means, some traditional sugars and oaky caramelly stuff, but weird, and I love it. Thanks pabobcat! YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 11, 2006 Didn’t think this would have such a high rating. It’s good but not exceptional. Reddish amber with a small off-whitre head. Aroma was brown sugar, honey, spice, dried fruit, malt. Smooth mouthfeel, medium body, low carbonation. Some alcohol warmth in the drinking, moderate sweetness, spice. A respectable but not exceptional barleywine. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Nice aroma of sugary caramel, honey, yeast, bold like a barlywine should be. Pours amber red with off white head. Flavor is very heavy on caramel and dried fruit, that transitions to a semi dry and pleasantly bitter finish. Slight warming. Not an aggressively hopped barleywine, nor a thick mouthfeel, but still very enjoyable. I enjoy this one as much as Bigfoot. A good barleywine for those with a developing palate
