| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 19, 2009 12 oz bottle that looks a lot thinner than I expected. Light orange color and it is quite cloudy. Nice aroma, candy and malts. Taste is watery barleywine, bitterness but no hint of the alcohol. This is decent but its just a tad thin for me. I’m always up for trying a new barleywine.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 3, 2005 Bottled on Feb, 11, 2005, picked up in Virginia by BA pentathlete, and shipped to me in what is turning out to be a great package of beers, this 12 oz. bottle of barley wine poured out with a pale copper body that was slightly hazy. The head was very smallish and fleeting, and the beer was quite still in appearance. The aroma was soft and soothing with a mellow restrained flowery hop tone riding atop sherry like alcohol. The taste was quite a bit hot, as the beer had not mellowed at all. Underlying that warm foretaste was the essence of cherry, raisin, and, plum. The hops were earthy, and mildly bitter. The body was relatively thin for the style. The beer felt stingingly warm at the back of the throat, making this a definite sipper, and a slow one at that. I felt every bit of it’s tender age while drinking this beer. I think that the ratings would be better after a few years in the cellar. One day I will find out. demitriustown (697), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2007 12 oz bottle via trade with jasonp! (Thanks!) Bottled on Feb 11 2005 so it’s got a little bit of age on it. Lets pop this bad boy open. Pours a ruby/ amber color with a medium sized tan head that lingers. A sweet and malty nose, citrus, some hops, caramel, and a light plum note. Taste is caramel, quite malty, dark, bready, light chocolate note, and a nice mouth filling bitterness. It’s got all the distinctions of a Barley Wine. Palate is bitter, with a oaky not, and rather dry on the backend. Overall, Pretty darn good Barley Wine. I know I am probably supposed to wait a little longer and let it age, but it was a long day and I needed a beer. Cheers! BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA

I enjoyed it very much, but such a big beer would have been better on a chilly evening. Hope to try more. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 3, 2007 I think I have typed this phrase about a hundred times but here it goes again... "Thank you shigadeyo for trading this to me". Pours a deep hazy amber with a small head. A big fermented fruit aroma. Plum, prune, apricot maybe??? It smells damn rich. Flavor is sort of bitter. Malts, fruits, caramel, wheats , and barleys. This one sure goes down smooth. It has only been about 5 minutes and it is about half gone. I need to slow this one down a little. Thanks again Craig. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 1, 2004 1999 version. Pours a deep, hazy orange with a half-finger head. Could smell oranges as soon as I started the pour. The orange is mixed with a subtle bread aroma and some port-like notes once in the glass. Flavor is not as complex as the aroma--very smooth and sweet, with a lasting alcohol tinge. Very good beer. aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 13, 2006 Great!!!! Thanks Jsquire. I like "Sherry of the Beer world" (recently getting hook on sherry thanks to treks to Ark via the Barrel Factory of Missouri and aged casks and the company of an aged archeologist). The sweet hoopiness balanced with the high alcohol content and estry fruit with honey overtones makes for true nectur. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 14, 2006 Bottled 2/16/06, so not aged at all. Pours a ruddy dark amber-orange color. Produces a 1/2" thick, dense light tan head which slowly fades to a spotty thin coating. Decent lacing as snifter drains. Aromas seem a bit tame for a BW this big and the alcohol tends to dominate a little too much. However, pleasant notes of dark rum soaked fruits, caramel, brown sugar, plum, port wine and a touch of spice from the hops are noted. Mouthfeel is slick, full and oily with a very subtle carbonation. Taste profile begins with a big, sweet malt blast; lots of roasted malt, raisin, honey, brandy and a touch of molasses. This quickly slides into a crisp moderate spicy/floral hop finish with a slight bitterness. A restrained alcohol presence in the end, but well hidden for such a strong BW. Worth a try, but not a classic.
