No head to speak of. Aroma is a strong sweet malty one with a classic barley wine profile. Also contains notes of oak and vanilla. Body is velvety smooth and lightly carbonated. Flavor is sweet, caramel, malt, slight fruitiness and finishes with a warming alcohol kick. Overall this has aged very well. madmitch76 (645), , Essex, England

Silky smooth but low carbonation. Hops dominate but the bitterness doesn’t. I find it to hoppy for a barleywine but very decent though. unclebleen (620), California, USA

Aroma is mostly malt with light hop. Sweet flavors of dark fruit. Almost no hop bitterness due to the vintage. Good barley wine with interesting complex flavors. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 6, 2004 Poured a reddish copper with a thin fizzy white head that didn't last. Orange peel and hops on the nose. Was almost like Grand Marinier. Orange, hops, vanilla, and a little bit of alcohol. Dry finish. A really nice barley wine. But lots of orange. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Apr 22, 2004 Pours a translucent red with medium head that fades quickly. Aroma of caramel, a bit of coffee, and sometimes grapefruit. The flavor is caramel and port brought alive by noticable but pleasent alcohol and citrusy hops. The palate is of a watery syrup. The alcohol on the finish is a bit harsh but just a bit. The aftertaste is long and changing and eventually fades to that of cotton candy. Very nice beer. jskendzel (602), Washington DC, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2003 Dark red. Citrusy, hoppy nose. Alcohol evident, but no where near 11.4%. Well balanced and an interesting hop presence. Overall a good beer that is drinkable. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Pours the color of cherry wood with a thin ivory head. Smells of molasses, dark fruit, vanilla and oak.
Tastes of alcohol up front but not too hot. Caramel flavors, hints of vanilla, plum and other dark fruit. Some significant hops in the finish but the malt shines in this beer. Mouth is rich and full. Finish is an warming alcohol burn. A good candidate for aging but pretty good now. Good winter seasonal. masonjer (564), Holt, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 3, 2008 Poured a nice orange brown color. nose is fruit and caramel. Taste is nice caramel, some more fruit, and a great big hop punch that I wasn’t expecting, some citrus and spice. I don’t think anyone can call this an english barleywine, but I guess that’s in the eye of the beerholder.
