It's a 'warm cozy' beer and very full. I'm not a big fan of the style, but the beer is well made. Rciesla (3770), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Wow just had a 5 year old keg version at of this and it was freaking awesome. Good bye hops hello to a malty fruity nectar of vinous alcohol. I loved it. 4.1 egajdzis (3636), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured a reddish copper color with a thin off white head, and also left nice lacing on the glass. Musty aroma of citrus, tropical fruits, and sweet caramel malts. More sweet malts in the taste, some watermelon, alcohol pepperiness, and this was surprisingly and pleasantly hoppy for its age. Thanks jeffc666! badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

Very strong, sweet malt aroma. The taste is very strong on the sweet malt. A little port/sherry flavors. Some mint. blankboy (3239), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 7, 2009 Bottle [12oz] courtesy of TheEpeeist. Bottled 02.16.06. I’ve had this beer for 10 months, brought it to two tastings where we never got to it and now, finally, I’m rating it! It pours a deep, hazy orange-amber with an average size diminishing beige head. Aroma: Oh wow, that’s nice: Malty, sweet and quite fruity along with some wood, caramel, alcohol, brown sugar and hops -- quite a bit going on here. Flavour’s no slouch and is quite tasty: Caramel malt, dark fruit, brown sugar, honey, light grassy hops and some alcohol (yeah there’s alcohol but for 11.4% this goes down pretty easy). Medium bodied, sticky mouthfeel, good amount of carbonation. I’m surprised by the low ratings by a lot of people, I really like this. BeerandBlues2 (3230), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

Pours hazy tawny with a small mostly diminishing light brown head, spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, cookie), average hops (flowers, spruce), average yeast (dough) with notes of pear, apple and date. Full bodied, average carbonation, creamy texture and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness; very nice roasted caramel malt flavor with notes of alcohol. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Light brown color with big bubbly head. Killer malty chocolate aroma that is incredable. Strong caramel and oak alcohol taste. There is no way it tastes 11.5% now. Malt, chocolate and toffee are all over the place. This will be an even better beer down the line. Could be the best barley wine I have ever had.
Re-rate on a Feb 19, 2004 bottle. Not the best barleywine I've ever had. Lay it down for real. hotstuff (3176), Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 24, 2007 Bottle Very small tan head that mostly diminished, no lacing, mostly opaque, no visible carbonation, and an orange brown hue. Nose was hoppy, sweet, malty, some caramel, and fruity. Ditto for the flavor with some pine taste. Fairly smooth mouthfeel. Medium body. Somewhat refreshing. Decent.
