Very light in color and in body but heavy on alcohol and hop after-taste. The Virginia honey is very apparent but not overwhelming. Rather mild as this style goes but a good Barley Wine for those that don’t necessarilly love the style or who haven’t tried one before. Sickboy282 (1100), San Diego, California, USA

Aromas of honey, coffee, and lots of sugar. slightly thick mouthfeel but leaves quickly. Not very carbonated, maybe bad sealing, but flaviors of honey, spice, and a little toffee. A very nice barley wine that I am lucky to have one aged, but it’s still missing something. But it is still better than a lot of barleywines out there. Thank you zathrus13 for the trade. Aroma was fruity, slightly vinous and caramel malt charcater. Warming body washes over your palate on all vintages. Older version show less sweeteness a slightly drier finish. Over all a nice barleywine and it appears to cellar well. MartinT (5075), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Earthy maltiness hugging light citrus and yeasty cocoa…Hefty pine hops kissing the muscular dark malt body but do not linger very long…Aroma promised much more than the mouth delivered in this nonetheless excellent example of a delicious style…9/4/8/4 16/20
(2004 bottle in 2005): Resinous, floral, citrusy and woody hops converge rigorously with the molasses, honey and cough drop sweetness...Wooden dryness ensues, exhorting a brown rum and port sweet alcohol flavor...Caramel and oranges blend beautifully in the silky sweet feel...A bit too young for now, but I know it can reach dazzling heights...7/3/8/4 15/20 TheBeerGod (3177), Newport News, Virginia, USA

Strong alcohol taste with slight spice but can be occasionally soapy. That’s the only drawback me or my friends can find. They prefer Monster while I prefer this. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA
