This is a very hoppy barleywine, much like SN Bigfoot, or 3F Behemoth, but this lacks the fullness and complexity of those big ones. Don't get me wrong, this is good, but there are so many great barleywines out there, that I wouldn't call this one one to really seek out - slight white lacing, clear copper color - malty aroma with a bit of honey - honey initially in the flavor, then the hops come in - heavy maltiness comes back toward the end, with some fruits (cherries mostly) - the malt/hop balance is pulled off well in this one, much like the beers mentioned above, but this is still one notch under those greats.

Cellar Reduction Night, Oct 20, 2007. Murky orange color with no head. Very strong, sweet malt aroma. The taste is very strong on the sweet malt. A little port/sherry flavors. Some mint.

(2002 Vintage) Thin head of dense creamy off white bubbles. Low carbonation. Rich aroma with plenty of raisins, grapes, butter toffee and caramel. Hint of oxidative sourness but hidden behind all of the other great aromas. Color is a cloudy dark rusty brown. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a good helping of malts and plenty of alcohol. Body is a little thiner than expected from the aroma and the look of the liquid. Nice alcohol kick and warming. Some sweet malts and a bit of caramel. Light sherry notes in there (vinuous). Finish is clean and slightly dry with no oxidation present in the finish. No tartness either. This is a pretty good barleywine and a great representation of the style.

What a barleywine should be. Thick. Aroma is primarily fruit and some sugar. Very sweet flavor, this is a lot like Full Sail.

Bottle. Hazy, copper color with good lacing and a small head. Sweet rich malty and fruity aroma, a little dustiness with noticible alcohol and citrus hoppiness. Flavor is sweet with sour/tart notes, fruity, good hop bite and a big alcohol finish. Full bodied with some carbonation.

Lighter brown color, thin head. Big malt, slightly sweet, some underlying hops to balance it out. Smooth big body, nice alcohol masking. A nice treat.

Bit of rubbing alcohol is overly distracting in the aroma. Nice hoppy flavour with just enought malt in the background. Warming feeling in the throat belies the strength of this brew in a pleasant manner. A nice barleywine. Thanks Jeremy USA ;)

1998 Vintage: Nice orange, caramel color. Slightly cloudy with decent lacing. Aroma is mostly malt with light hop. Sweet flavors of dark fruit. Almost no hop bitterness due to the vintage. Good barley wine with interesting complex flavors.
