Poured a dark amber witha yellowish head. The aroma is boozy vanilla and oak from the barrel aging. There are also some apples and a little cinnamon, but it is light. The taste is vanilla and oak. There is also a hint of cinnamon and some some chocolate. There is a little spice here. Fairly good, but one dimensional. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 22, 2007 Draft at the DC Brewpub. Rather strong yet tastly barleywine.Nice dark color. Aroma provided a good warning of what to expect. Strong flavor and a hop character almost made me wince. Much better by the 3rd sip. Was rather tastly though. I considerred getting a "tower" of this, but wasn’t ready to walk home jimbowood (983), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 22, 2006 2006 bottle purchased from the brewpub. 11.4% alcohol is quite suprising. A little sweet and cloying. Very malty. Finish is too dry. I think this will improve w/ age. 5000 (2900), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 20, 2005 Bottle: Caramel, slight haze, white head, dissipates quickly, spotty lacing, light sediment. Fruity nose - candied, caramel malts, slight heat. Young grapefruity citrus bitterness up front, somewhat sticky malts, semi-sweet. 11.4% is very well hidden (bonus point). Very light finish, too light in fact. Decent body, mediocre mouthfeel. Clean, but not big. Thanks Ben!

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 10, 2005 Bottle. Pours cloudy amberish red with a dusting of a head. Looks thick and a bit cloudy. Aromas of deep fruitiness and lots and lots of malts. Highly fruited malt flavor with a zip and a tangy aftertaste, but not metallic (which is nice). Alcohol isn’t well masked, but it defitely doesn’t taste like 10+%. A bit too sweet for me to want to drink on a regular basis, but once in awhile is ok. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
