Appearance in the glass is a dark amber color with about a half-inch of beige head that dies down quickly to a random scattering of bubbles. Left a bit of lace as well as it was consumed. Sweet malt and fruity notes dominated the aroma. Notes of molasses were present as was a bit of alcohol as this warmed. Sweet tasting upfront and a bit of molasses and alcohol lingering in the background. Also there were notes of dark fruits and a slight alcohol bite on the aftertaste. It was sweet but not cloying as the alcohol and hops kept that in check. Almost full bodied this was rich and coating in the mouth. Tasty stuff that I have drank several of upon occasion and a release I always look forward each year. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 27, 2007 Pours a dull hazy brown, with a quarter inch of white foam. This reduces to a ring in a few moments. The aroma is of toffee and brown sugar, with a hint of over-ripe pineapple.
Lots of toffee, caramel, and honey malt goodness. Very good hop balance with lots of resiny, almost oily, piney hops. A hint of orange peel and spicy hops in the finish, with a strong alcohol presence in the aftertaste. Full bodied, and the malt just clings to the roof of my mouth. craftbeerdesign (754), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA

Pours a deep amber / orange with no head. Huge honey and citrus aromas with a touch of hops..... I just wish the aroma was turned up a bit.... medium body with a spicy front and solid finish which lets the alcohol out a bit... slight burn which lets you know the abv. Wonderful citrus and honey notes with a very well balanced bitterness. sticky and sweet.... lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is honey, hops and an alcohol burn, inviting, strong.
Visuals are a deep ruby red, lightly carbonated, very quick tan head goes away completely.
Taste is bitter, middling to sweetness, finish is a long bitter burn.Tasty, but unbalanced.
Palate is crisp, rough, and sandy. Gritty, drying, and with an alcohol burn throughout.
Overall, a very nice brew, definitely a different kind of barleywine, this one much less sweet than others, with a great deal of hop presence. Delicious, well done. Jine (896), Nutley, New Jersey, USA

Pours a great deep copper shade with medium off-white head. Aroma of big caramel malt, dark fruit, spices, hops. Tastes very fruity, with firm malt, hops, and some cognac at the finish. Smooth, firm mouthfeel, with a great balance and complexity. Definitely in the upper tier of barleywines. russghost (2), USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 24, 2006 I love this beer - brewed just 1 mile from my house. bottles keep for many years KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Tastes very sweet with grapes, grapefruit, caramel, apples, spice, nuts, wood and a nice bitterness. Not too bad of alcohol taste either. This beer definitley warms your body up. One of my favorites to date.
