Commercial Description:

As of approximately July 2007 the new ownership of Old Dominion has decided that the actual Oak Barrel version of this beer is not economically feasible. Thus the Oak Barrel Stout that is available at the brewpub is the exact same one that is in bottles.

Aged in used Bourbon Oak barrels, Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is a lovely, creamy dark beer with a hint of chocolate and a distinctive vanilla, oak and bourbon flavor.

Note: aged in bourbon barrels and only available at the brewpub at the brewery.

Chocolates in the aroma. Very dark brown color, little if any light passed through, not much head. Very sweet chocolate flavors with a hint of mocha and malts. Very rich. Thick, but not dense. The aftertaste has a hint of bitterness. Good stuff.

Wow!!! This stout is incredible. On tap at Dominion. Pours black with a thick light brown head. Oak, roasty malt and vanilla nose. Has has a nice complex mixture of vanilla, chocolate, oak and coffee. Has a wonderful buttery flavor and leaves chocolatey/bourbon aftertaste. Medium creamy body with very subtle carbonation. Lacing hangs on the glass in sheets, good head retention. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

(Draught) Pours a thin, white head and a near opaque body. Beautiful cask and cocoa nose. Full bodied cocoa, vanilla and sweet malt taste. Slight fizzy and oily texture. Great chocolate finish!

Wow - this was pretty impressive! The body is a deep dark brown with a nice creamy head. The sweet enticing aroma was quickly ignored in a rush to take a sip. I found the this beer to have a wonderful original flavor. This beer was sweet with an accent of chocolate and vanilla and other hard to describe flavor I am assuming is derived from the oak and bourbon. I'm looking forward to enjoying this beer again soon.

My in-laws live in Ashburn, and everytime we visit I fill up my father-in-law's growler with this stuff, which is awesome b/c none of them like stouts, so I get to drink it all. This is a smooth, chocolatey, roasty stout aged for 2 weeks in oak bourbon barrels, during which it picks up this nice bourbon, vanilla, oak flavor and aroma. The flavors compliment each other wonderfully.

Great aroma to start, with an opaque appearance and large head. Lots of chocolate malts complimenting an exceptionally smooth, full-bodied taste. There was a bit of an earthy flavor as well in the delicious finish.

Re-rate: 12/17/04:... Draft... This beer rocks!... Wow! I can really smell and taste the bourbon in this batch. I’m a sucker for anything bourbon. Higher score!****** Original rating: 1/10/04: New Moon black with a hidden, clear, crimson hue. Creamy head. Great lacework. Notes of Tia Maria or Kahlua, vanilla, chocolate, oak and cherry. Medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, crisp, bitter finish. No bourbon detected... and I know bourbon. Still, a very nice beer.

On tap at the pub. Just awesome. Deep brown, almost black, tan creamy lasting head. Aromas and flavors mirror each other. Notes of roasted malt, milk chocolate, coffee, and vanilla beans to boot. All of this with a rich and complex oak background. One of the best best session stouts (IMO) brewed in the DC area. If ever in town, I certainly say find some. Will be bottled in the very near future.
