Black hued stout having a small off-white head. No discernable carbonation. Light fruity wood aroma. Medium bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and light prunes/vanilla/roasted malt/wood flavors. Finishes dry and clean. Rather thin textured, this is a good drinkable stout nonetheless. The complex flavors and aromas, this already phenomenal beer picks up from the barrel, is stunning. Dominion Oak Barrel Stout pours to a jet black color, with a slight tan head that fades, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is a true joy. Complex aromas of chocolate, coffee, and roast marry with aromas of vanilla, oak, and bourbon. The palate is soft and silky on the tongue, with big flavors of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, oak, and roasty flavors. This beer finishes with more complex chocolate malt and coffee flavors, and ends with some vanilla and oaky flavor.

Nice aroma of bourbon, toffee, and light-roasted coffee. Decadent nose suggests mega-sweetness but the initial taste is drier than expected. Has elements of dark rum, well-caramelized malt, and dried currants. Very nice brewpub stout. I wish more brewpubs had a regular offering as good as this. srauschenberg (7), Suwanee, Georgia, USA does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 16, 2005 nuts, toast, vanilla, black, frothy, medium sweetness, full body, creamy, soft carbonation, bp (456), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
