Commercial Description:

As of approximately July 2007 the new ownership of Old Dominion has decided that the actual Oak Barrel version of this beer is not economically feasible. Thus the Oak Barrel Stout that is available at the brewpub is the exact same one that is in bottles.

Aged in used Bourbon Oak barrels, Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is a lovely, creamy dark beer with a hint of chocolate and a distinctive vanilla, oak and bourbon flavor.

Note: aged in bourbon barrels and only available at the brewpub at the brewery.

Dulles airport. Heavy mix of different flavors. Just alright. I hate the 75 character word restriction, and evil browsers that eat your words as postdata.

Huge thanks to MilkmanDan for bringing a growler of this during his last trip through Cleveland!!!!! Brownish red pour. Not all that dark, but looking back how this beer is overall, it makes sense. Wonderful aromas of vanilla, chocolate, sweeet bourbon whiskey and fruit. Unbelievably smooth. Great barrel aged flavors. Ths beer makes sense to me as a bourbon barrel beer due to the pubs location and how close it is to real bourbon country. Chocolate with lots of barrel flavors. This stuff is really impressive. Possibly the best barrel aged beer I’ve ever had. Thank you Dan!!!!!!!

This was my first Growler. A friend from Norhtern Virginia brought one down to the bay. The Growler is impressive. It has 1/2 gal of stout with a ceramic closure. The handle is metal. This dark beverage had a nose of oak and chocolate. The stout poured with little head but outstanding flavor of coffee and chocolate. This is a complex drink that was a pleasure from the first taste. I hope to get this bad boy refilled.

Growler RBSG 05. Tasted and smelled a bit more like oak than the regular version otherwise it is very similar. Very smooth, vanilla, oak, and lots of roasted notes. Pretty damned bold and complex despite the low abv.

Out of the growler at the 2005 RBSG. Dark beer with a nose of vanilla and barrel. The initial swallow is so dry it almost disappears. Seems thin. Flavors of vanilla, oak, some chocolate, and the noticable bourbon barrel treatment, but not enough of the stout underneath it to make it great. I think I liked the bottled version better.

The perfect answer to a twelve hour day in Dulles Intl. Airport. Thick and black with a dense head. Roasted aromas of coffee and caramel. Some roasted flavors as well with some toffee and wood and an incredibly full, round, and creamy mouth feel

Light beige head, deep dark brown, not opaque. Huge vanilla beans nose, highly woody with a very well integrated soft roastiness. Great blendind of caramel malt sweetness and minty strong oakiness. Almost a 9 for the nose. The palate however may have suffered from the growler conditioning. It is very sweet, bready and brown sugar like. Thje barrel traces are less obvious than in the nose. Almost oaty feels with lots of chocolate powder overtones. Not much carbonation left, slightly watery edges, yet oily.

RBSG ’05 - from a growler. a jet black pour capped with a soapy cream colored head. aroma is very full, containing caramels, brown sugar, coffee and chocolate, with a nice dose of oak behind it all. roasted coffee and chocolate make up the main flavors, with the other portions of the nose coming out in different places. further, the bourbon sits in behind everything as an omnipresent element of the taste. this beer definintely aged well, as it was as smooth as could be, velvety soft on the tounge, but just a bit too thin to make it unbelievable.
