Commercial Description:

As of approximately July 2007 the new ownership of Old Dominion has decided that the actual Oak Barrel version of this beer is not economically feasible. Thus the Oak Barrel Stout that is available at the brewpub is the exact same one that is in bottles.

Aged in used Bourbon Oak barrels, Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is a lovely, creamy dark beer with a hint of chocolate and a distinctive vanilla, oak and bourbon flavor.

Note: aged in bourbon barrels and only available at the brewpub at the brewery.

Another beauty find on my US tasting adventure. Smells of vanilla and roasted malts. Poured black with virtually no head. THe low carbonation and medium-thick body give it a very creamy mouthfeel. Balanced well towards the sweet side of the flavor spectrum with hints of coffee and chocolate. The vanilla oak character dominates the finish.

This one is aged in proper oak barrels, rather than being impregnated with oak chips as in the normal version. And the influence of the oak is quite apparent in the aroma - vanilla with vinous notes and a good hit of sweet coffee. More vanilla, toffee and some chocolate, in the flavour. A bit reminiscent of fudge. Finishes relatively sweet. Definitely a couple of notches up from the regular version. On tap at the Dominion brewery.

On tap. Dark with a creamy tan head. This is a sweet stout with very strong tones of chocolate. Perhaps I was not in a good mood, but this one did not strike me as a tasty stout, and I have tried many. Disappointing.

Poured an opaque black color with a tan head though no lacing on the glass. Smokey, oak, vanilla, chocolate, aroma. Taste was very creamy, more roast and chocolate, vanilla oak. Whiskey burn on the way down. Creamy mouthfeel.

Had this on nitro unfortunatley. This beer was obviously ruined due to the nitro treatment.Might as well had guiness but this was better. It was frustrating knowing how good the bottled version is and not getting what I expected on draft.Mouth was creamy and flat(eck)This pint was sampled at Sean Bolan’s in Bel Air,MD.

You can smell the bourbon notes. The brww is very dark and has a nice tan head. Flavor is chocolate and vanilla. Very nice, but i prefer my stouts a little stronger.

(Draught) Pours black with a medium-sized tan head. Sweet chcolate and vanilla aroma. Flavor of semi-sweet chocolate and coffee with a hint of vanilla. Nice creamy palate, somewhat bitter. Good beer!

Had this at the Old Dominion Beer Fest. Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Chocolate, bourbon, vanilla. My first thought was that I was drinking chocolate ice cream. Excellent.
