Commercial Description:
Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is rich and smooth, a draught brew so popular at our Brewup that we found a way to bottle it for a wider audience. We combine seven different malts and two hops to create a delicious stout, that we dry-hop with fresh vanilla beans and toasted oak to finish our little treasure. The result is a stout that has the bourbon barrel flavor we all enjoy, and hope you will to.

Note: made with oak chips and vanilla beans, not aged in barrels. Available bottled and draft outside of the brewpub.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a medium but quickly diminishing cocoa colored head. Aroma is really nice. The roasted notes combine with the oak and vanilla for really well rounded nose. Flavor is moderately sweet, but with enough pungency to still remain relatively dry in the finish. The oak and vanilla linger on the palate. A fine stout.

THOUGHTS: A truly unique beer. I expected this to be a huge alcohol bomb when I saw "oak" on the label. But this is great to have all those flavors we usually only see in hight ABV beers in an easy drinking lower ABV beer. i was getting a little bored with rating beer, but beers like this keep it exciting. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that looked black in the glass with slight red highlights and a small, tan head that mostly diminished and left virtually no lacing. The aroma was light cereal, roasted, and toffee malt, more molasses malt, toffee, vanilla, cola, slight bourbon and ever so slight wood. The initial flavor was lightly sweet, acidic and bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet and bitter, lightly acidic and sour with a short duration. There was vanilla, roasted malt wood and coffee. The medium body was oily with fizzy carbonation and a light astringent finish.

Bottle on big sale at Sam’s ($3.99/sixer). Dark pour, smallish tan head. Roasty, malty, and sweet oaky nose. Hop presence. Add a ton of vanilla on the palate, and there you go. Somewhat watery, but to be expected given the abv. Nice to not be so heavy, though. Solid.

this was an excellent stout. Thick mouthfeel, roasted malt with a rich, full palate. A true delight. I had to drink this beer to fast (had to leave the bar to catch a flick). Next time I will savor this beer.

Poured very black with a cola like head. Creamy roasted mocha coffee in aroma. Flavor was identical to the aroma. I almost felt like I had a coffee in my hand. It’s surprisingly light on the palate. Very carbonated. A nice brew.

Dark brown pour with a thick cascading tan head. Toasted aroma. Medium bodied with notes of caramel, chocolate, oak, vanilla, and hops. Great stuff

Bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark ruby-brown with an average size diminishing frothy tan head. Very nice aroma of toasted caramel, vanilla, chocolate and toffee -- I love it! Smooth flavour of roasted caramel malt, coffee, toffee, vanilla and some hops in the finish -- all very well balanced. Medium bodied. It’s surprising (to me) how much I like this -- very good stuff.
