The malty and coffee aroma jumps out at you. Pretty well balanced. Coffee flavor, with a woody oak taste mixed in. Although I have to be honest, I’m not sure I would have noticed that aspect had it not been in the name of the beer. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 7, 2008 Pours a dark black, allows some light. Fairly standard stout. Nice one finger creamy beige head. The aroma is very offsetting, definite diacetyl problem here. I wonder if this is a result of trying to convert it from draught to bottle. Anyways, some coffee and chocolate in the nose, lightly sweet, mostly diacetyl though. The flavor is similar, very buttery, waxy bitter coffee, bakers chocolate, waxy mouthfeel. Very disappointed with this one. No evidence of any oak or vanilla. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 7, 2008 The color was dark brown with a creamy, thin, off-white head. The aroma was coffee, sweet, dark roast, and butter. The flavor was coffee, rotting fruit, and butter. I’m pretty sure this was an infected batch. The palate was mildly carbonated and medium-bodied. The finish was roasty. gabrielsyme (66), Ohio, USA

Initiial taste of toffeeish malts with some bitterness, then a very sweet vanilla finish. Delicious, maybe the best stout I’ve had. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA

Pours a nice dark brown with a small chocolate colored head. Smell is great with a bit of wood and vanilla and of course coffee. Taste is great with vanilla and oak balancing the coffee. As it warmed some chocolate came out. Very smooth with low bitterness. A really good session stout. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Dark black with a creamy tan head that dissipates to nothing. Vanilla cream soda sweet smell with rich chocolate and oak notes. Super smooth, roasty, creamy chocolate with vanilla and sweet undertones. Many subtle layers of flavor open up as it warms. Very complex for such a low ABV, and so damn drinkable. One of my favorite standard stouts. gpekar (230), Maryland, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Poured a deep brown color with a thin tan head that disappeard quickly. There was a very mild aroma of chocolate and hops. There was good carbonation. The flavors were also very mild. There was a sense of a smokey flavor. I never got any aroma or taste of vanilla, just the light smoke flavor of the oak. Not bad, but anticipated more. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Courtesy hopscotch. Pours dark brown, with a small tan head. Liked the nose, alot of oak, vanilla, light coffee, chocolate cream, and maybe even a touch of smoke in there. The flavor was heavy on the roasty side leaving a decent bitterness. Mixed in were mild chocolate and oak, with some subtle hops in the finish. Mild, yet flavor ful stout. The oak chips really mellowed this brew out, but still kept it sharp.
