What else can I say about oak barrel. Old Dom outdid themselves this time! First off the aroma alone is enough to get your blood pumping. With essence of chocolate and vanilla tones. A hint of burbon is present. Pours a beautiful caramel color head.
Hands down one of the best brews i’ve had in months!!!! BREWMUSKCLES (1075), New Jersey, USA

Sit down in front of your outdoor campfire with a couple of friends and family and enjoy. This stout pours a deep dark brown with a small tan head which disipates.Small tan head dissipates quickly. Even thoug hthe head almost disappears, there is good lacing which slowly slides down the glass. The vanilla hits with gusto on first sip with the hops and oak flavors combining to give a smokey overtone. Your tongue enjoys a lighter feeling, but not a watery consistancy. The malts and vanilla come through strong again in the finish. A smokey, vanilla aftertaste lingers long after. shakespeare33 (120), san diego, California, USA

I am not a stout drinker but this is one exception. Smooth with bite, the perfect combination and the oak gives it just the right amount of aftertaste. One of my favorites. after4ever (2773), Brier, Washington, USA

Pours black with a thin dark tan head and plenty of lace under what was a modest moussy tan head. Big chocolatey nose. Creamy medium body with light, accentual carb and gently forward flavors. Soft chocolate notes and subtle accents of vanilla, pepper, and roast. Clean sweet finish. Nice stuff. Skyview (4055), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA

Aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla with some dark pitted fruits and caramel. Taste is full bodied, lightly carbonated with some coffee/chocolate flavors on top of the dark roasted malt. Finish is semi-sweet, fruity with a dry sour aftertaste. Brigadier (1246), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

I have had this for a while now and since I’m trying to clear some cellar space decided to crack it open. The other two Old Dominion beers I’ve tried were solid releases. This one turned out to be in the same camp. It does not stand out as exceptional but there are not many flaws to speak of.
Aroma / Appearance - The short lived beige head receded into the dark red body after about thirty seconds. The nose was pretty complex for a stout - plums, raisins, smoke and anise. Cocoa butter blends in with the vanilla beans and wood characteristics that must come from the barrel aging.
Flavor / Palate - Bitter dark chocolate, smoke and thick brownies immediately coat the mouth. Plums and peaches come next before a watery charcoal finish. The mouthfeel is fluid and loose. It was not as complex as the nose suggested but still very satisfying. The alcohol is hidden well and does not come out until the very end.
