I’m not tasting the vanilla at all. Somewhat enjoyable, but not something I’d go out of my way to purchase. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2007 bottled poured with a dark (very dark), opaque color and tan head. Nice looking brew. Malty aroma (and maple syrup?). Tastes slightly sweet and smoky with a (for me anyway) slightly tobacco finish. This is a really good beer. I just picked up a six pack of this on sale for $6.99 and would happily pay more. Tasty. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 2, 2007 Bottle at the Brickskeller. Hearty black pour with a bit of ruby resting at the bottom. Aroma of chocolate chip pancakes, soaked in maple syrup. Ground wild rice and raisins in that recipe. Really rich with a sweet smoke and vanilla middle. Hints at mushrooms and burnt brown sugar. First to taste are prunes and chocolate soda. Dark and peaty, with plenty of smooth vanilla extract. Aftertaste lets on the oak chips a bit with a kind of rain-rotted wood coating. Thin and earthy, even muddy, in the mouth. A fairly sweet residual smack. Nothing close to stunning, but reasonably successful. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 27, 2007 From a twelve ounce bottle purchasedc at "Kellers IGA" in Cincinnati, Ohio - This one pours a VERY dark brown (nigh black) brew with a thick brown head of foam and complex fruit-borboun-cocoa-vanilla aroma. Tastewise, it’s just deep, rich, and yummy okkay? b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 25, 2007 Dark brown color with small tan head and no lacing. Aroma and flavor all typical, unspectacular, and ordinary. One of the weaker, more boring stouts I’ve had that’s no different from the next.
