Commercial Description:
Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is rich and smooth, a draught brew so popular at our Brewup that we found a way to bottle it for a wider audience. We combine seven different malts and two hops to create a delicious stout, that we dry-hop with fresh vanilla beans and toasted oak to finish our little treasure. The result is a stout that has the bourbon barrel flavor we all enjoy, and hope you will to.

Note: made with oak chips and vanilla beans, not aged in barrels. Available bottled and draft outside of the brewpub.

Bottle. Poured mostly black with hints of garnet at the edges and onfinger light tan head. Aroma had vanilla, wood, and malts. This one didn’t capture me like some of the other stouts I have been drinking. Flavor got better with time. I get roasted malts, vanilla, and some dark fruit. Maybe the slightest bit of chocolate. The mouthfeel is thin and the finish has some metallic tendencies. I would opt for other stouts in the future.

Bottle. Aroma of roasted malt and vanilla. The palate is nice, but a little thin. The flavor is well balanced between roasted malt and oaky/vanilla flavors. Good beer.

Bottled 071906, provided via trade with moejuck. Pours black with a spare fizzy light brown head, mostly diminishing, spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (chocolate, coffee, burnt), light hops (perfume), average yeast (dough) with notes of prune, smoke and vanilla. Medium bodied, thin texture, soft carbonation and a metallic finish. Short duration, light sweetness and acidity, moderate bitterness; mineral notes.

Black pour with mahogany/ruby highlights and a dark tan light head. Aromas are vanilla, coffee & light spice. Flavor can vary from highly complex with chocolate, burbon, vanilla, slight roasted coffee & woody notes to simple stout depending on the bottle. Lacks consistency from one bottle to the next but when it’s a good one, it’s very good.

Black with a very small head. Spare lacing. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Taste adds some wood and just a hint of bourbon. Medium bodied. Flat carbonation. Slightly sweet finish. Definitely worth trying.

Bottle. Pours dark brown alomost black, thinnish tan colored head. Aroma is vanilla, caramel, roasted malt, some oak. Flavor is huge vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, roasted malt, oak, very faint hint of bourbon. Palate is medium bodied, mildly carbonated, sweet, smooth finish. Flavor is really nice, maybe too much vanilla almost to the point where it seems imitation. In a wierd way reminds me of Rougue Hazelnut Nectar and that almost extract flavor, though this is much better. Body is a little thin for my taste in a stout.
