Commercial Description:
Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is rich and smooth, a draught brew so popular at our Brewup that we found a way to bottle it for a wider audience. We combine seven different malts and two hops to create a delicious stout, that we dry-hop with fresh vanilla beans and toasted oak to finish our little treasure. The result is a stout that has the bourbon barrel flavor we all enjoy, and hope you will to.

Note: made with oak chips and vanilla beans, not aged in barrels. Available bottled and draft outside of the brewpub.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. The pour is just about solid black with glints of ruby on the very edges with a small tan had that disappears quickly. The aroma is coffee upfront big time with traces of sweetness and milk chocolate. The flavor is dry roast and coffee topped off with a hint of metal, some sweet and sour, and a tiny hint of vanilla. Body is medium-high and the carbonation is a bit high for my liking.

A right tasty stout as far as these things go. Subtle vanilla flavors and an almost silky mouthfeel contribute to its drinkability.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Norfolk. Very dark pour with a thin tan head. Strong aroma of vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, and roasted malt. Surprisingly rich in aroma given the low ABV. Taste is very smoky with only faint remnants of the aroma. This is without question a very good stout. If the taste were as good as the aroma it could be extraordinary.

Small and quickly fading tan head. It has a quite a bit of vanilla in the aroma and roasted malts. Flavors of vanilla, oak and dark malts linger but I find the beer a little thin and watery. Good beer but nothing special.

12oz bottle thanks to a trade with ksurkin. Pours black with a tan head. Oak nutty sweet aromas with dough and burnt malts. Surprisingly a light amount of chocolate but rich in alcohol and oak. Light body finishes chocolatey, oaky, and dry. Thin body but decent beer.

Tap at the Dulles location. Pours black with a large tan head that laced a little. Aromas of warm burnt malt and light hop. Near full in body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is smooth toasted malt with perhaps floral hop, and a definite astringness I attribute to oak. Really hits the sides of the tongue. It’s not as thick and rich as those barrel aged Paradox stouts, but it is very tasty and satisfying.
