Commercial Description:
Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is rich and smooth, a draught brew so popular at our Brewup that we found a way to bottle it for a wider audience. We combine seven different malts and two hops to create a delicious stout, that we dry-hop with fresh vanilla beans and toasted oak to finish our little treasure. The result is a stout that has the bourbon barrel flavor we all enjoy, and hope you will to.

Note: made with oak chips and vanilla beans, not aged in barrels. Available bottled and draft outside of the brewpub.

Black beer, mocha purple-grey head. Guiness-y aroma. Nice balance, roast, mild sweetness, nuttiness. There was a certain mustardiness- if that’s a word - to the beer that strangely suggested hot dogs to me. Roasty finish. Buffered lactose sweetness with a hint of hazelnut. Mad Mex, Pittsburgh Airport.

Pours a dark, dark brown with a very meager caramel head. Aroma is roasted chocolate as well as is the flavor with a little bitter bite. Very exquisite, refined brew.

Bottle: Dark brown with no head. Interesting aroma of butter and ripe garbage ready to be picked up by BFI. It has a tangy taste combined with a buttery flavor as well. The feel is fairly thin, I guess I expected more. Anyway, a fine stout, but have had better. Thanks Bück Dich.

Bottle: Pours a dark black color with thick tan head; assorted sizes of bubbles, nice sheets of the lacing. The nose is rich and buttery with some light roasted notes and a very up front vanilla caramelcorn type of smell. Light in the strong roast and coffee department. The flavor is just as buttery with lots of vanilla from the chips and some diacetyle perhaps mixed in as well. Decent body and a bit lacking in the finish. I’m not getting much in the oak department, moreso in the sweet vanilla. Decent though and is good to sip and sniff if you’re into the rich melanoidins.

Bottle at Fries Cafe, OH. Poured black color with a minimal fizzy off-white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate woody roasted coffee and vanilla aroma. Medium to full body with a creamy texture. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.

Pours well, but produced a somewhat disappointing head. The vanilla aroma is very recognizable and enjoyable. However, the vanilla flavor becomes a bit overwhelming shortly into the beer. I think this would be a beer more enjoyed with food.

shared this brew with deltamarik, i’ll have to take his word that it’s better on tap, but it certainly gains a bit letting it warm up and the carbonation fade. Overall a very good beer that i look forward to trying on tap.

Unfortunately, not as good as what they’ve got at the brewpub. A bit too carbonated, and the bourbon and vanilla don’t come out quite as well. But if you can’t make it to the brewpub, definitely give this a try.
